Good luck finding a AGP card that will work with your 42", whats the native resolution on the TV? I would think to run a monitor that big at a good resolution you will need more then just a video card, but 200-400 would buy you a card to do that. Also make sure the card is good at playing High def, the new 9600gt is supposed to be ok at it, 38xxHDs from ATI are supposed to be good at playing back HD stuff. Read the reviews, make sure it does what you want, then buy.

It is a plasma so it is likely only 720p at best. It shouldn't take all that much to run that. I would recommend doing some research on avsforums.com

Its going to look like crap with that big of a screen at 720 though. 1080 is the min for a screen that big. Most PC monitors that big will display 1900x1200 and it takes one heck of a video card (or 2 or 3) to run games with good FPS that big and good res., but HD video play back on even a $600 card if its not made to do it can suck. Just like 3d CAD programs they make special cards for that, which can cost $2000+ but could not play a game to save its life.

It's been a little while since I've gamed seriously on a PC, but isn't th $90-150 mark on the low end of graphics cards?

As said by a few others, cross reference your TV's resolution and make sure your new video card supports output at that resolution. Don't use a generic av cable (red/white/yellow), but be sure to use s-video or better yet, a HDV connector. There are also two different kinds of HDV connectors too, so watch out for that.

I used to be a big time gamer back in the day and was ranked #32 in the world for Quake 2 CTF and #134 in the world in Quake 3 CTF. I was (and still am) all about the Nvidia cards over the ATI's but that was because Nvidia had better driver support back in the day. I'm sure things have changed by now.

Another thing to check out is Pricewatch.com its similar to newegg but been around longer.

Hope that helps man!

Slickdeals.net is great too, do a search for video cards. People go on there with the lowest prices they have found anywhere.
