Megan Racing S.S. Headers
Anyone here purchase of these and have good luck with it, or is just worth waiting and saving for the shearer headers that come with lifetime warranty?
Keep in mind I'm gonna be running an internal wastegate for all of this summer and possibly next summer too. |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
From what Ive heard Megan racing has made some good exhuast products. I know there are alot of people who run cat backs are happy with that.
|
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
I just purchased there downpipe, testpipe, and catback. Not gonna install until spring, but just seeing it in person I'm really impressed.

Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
It may help if you give us some info on the vehicle. You're talking about a wastegate, but your screen name says 420, like 420A? Is this a N/T that's now turboed? Give us some info on the car.
As for Shearer manifolds, I wish I could go back in time and get one of his instead of the SLS one. SLS's manifold is very nice, but their customer service was aweful in the end. Why exactly are you looking to upgrade the manifold? What one do you have now? What flange are you wanting on your new manifold (mitsu,t3)? |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
i am thinking 420 is his smoking preference.
I had the same question too as a header is used on a NA car not a turbo car. Mitsu flange = FP FTW ANything else the market is huge but i know shearer's stuff is awesome and he is active on a lot of boards, i also think that punishment sells some mani's with a good warranty and now MAP has a line of manifolds |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
if I would do it all again, I would get the mitsu FP manifold

Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
Anyone ever own megan headers for over a year?
|
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
Ouch dude, hope you are alright.
From your description sounds like an FP mani is what you want. It spooled up faster and had better top end, not to mention it looks priceless. I would offer mine, but i am not changing this setup for a while. |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
He said he wanted to go to a T3 housing, and the FP manifolds are mitsu flanged.
If you are trying to keep the cost down, have you considered the Turbonetics/Treadstone cast T3 manifolds? They are cast, so you shouldn't have to worry about cracking as much. The wastegate placement on those is often debated, but for someone looking to save some money, it's not a bad option. http://www.treadstoneperformance.com...Turbo+Manifold I can't speak for the megan because I've never used one. But the fact that they share the exact same design as the other cheapo ones on ebay that continuously fail would make me worry. |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
Thanks for the help guys, I will have to keep those cast manifolds in mind. Would be nice to not have to worry about cracking, that is why I am probably going to go with a LIPP cast 02 housing.
Anyways, whatever exhaust mani I go with, it won't be getting wrapped. ;) Halon, that manifold is set up for an external gate isn't it? I'm set up for internal right now, and dont plan on changing that for the next few summers. |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
OK so now you're starting to confuse me. First you said you definately wanted to go T3. Most T3 manifolds out there are going to be setup for an external gate, because you typically run an external gate on T3 setups on these cars. You say you plan on staying internally gated for a few summers yet.
Are you going to be running a 5-bolt T3 style exhaust housing with an internal gate on this new setup or something? What turbo are you planning on using? I'm confused now. |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
Sorry for any confusion. I'm just sticking with the set up I listed above, except for the 2g 02 housing, 2.5" downpipe, 3" test pipe, and 3" pressbent catback exhaust.
That is getting replaced with a 2.5" LIPP cast o2 housing, 3" megan downpipe, 3" megan test pipe, 3" megan cat back exhaust. From what I read my PTE SCM50 has a 34mm internall gate. So I'm a little worried about getting some boost creep from the more free flowing exhaust, but I think I should be fine. Trust me I know that external dump is the route to go, but I don't have the money to change it to an external dump, there for, I have to keep it internally dumped. So I'm looking for headers that don't come set up or you have a choice for the external dump. |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
well the turbo you have right now is a mitsu flange, so unless your going to change the turbine housing your best bet is the fp cast mani since that is still a mitsu style housing.

Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
This is what I'm looking for.
http://www.maperformance.com/store/p...at=1069&page=1 Halon, sorry for being confusing, i'm an idiot. I don't know why I said t3, I want t2 aka mitsu flange. |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
If you're staying mitsu flanged, I say either stay with the 2G manifold you have, or go with the nice Cast FP one.
|
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
True, but I don't wanna spend close to 400 bucks on a cast manifold when I know they used to go for like $250.
I guess the question is, do I spend the $325 on a fp cast exhaust manifold, or do I spend it on a JM Fab street SMIM? |

Hey thanks Halon, pullin through in the clutch. |
Re: Megan Racing S.S. Headers
FP has them on sale right now, I got mine for 175 I think last week. They don't have the coated ones on sale any more, but for about $190 shipped uncoated they're a steal.
