Chicago for a day

Well, I was getting sick of the cold, and I was just randomly searching some cheap flights to get out of town. I'm not sure why I decided to look up Chicago, since that's not really a warm destination, but I saw some dirt cheap flights in April ($79 round trip). I figured it shouldn't be too bad in April, it might actually be kind of nice.

So, long story short, I decided to book a flight and suprise my girlfriend with a day in Chicago. The only problem is I'm not sure what to do. I'd really like to check out some of the museums and get some real Chicago deep dish pizza, and maybe sit by the lake if it's nice. Other than that, I'm pretty open.

We'll be landing around 9:30 am and taking off around 9:30 pm. After getting to and from the airport, we'll have about 10 hours to fill. I'm going to rely on public transportation to get around, because we'll be in the city all day anyway, and I don't think we'll save any time by renting a car and driving around. Plus I don't want to worry about parking and such.

So, for those of you that have been to Chicago, where would you reccomend going? Places to eat, places to see, things to do? It just sounded like a fun random thing to do on a Saturday, and when it's all said and done, it will probably end up being relatively cheap too. :D

Gino's East Pizza is the best you can get IMO! Get the sausage patty one, its ungodly thick and filling and so very delicious. There is a location Downtown and one near the inner western 'burbs. The subway system is very easy and quick to use. Chinatown is also pretty cool just to check out, eat in the smallest dumpiest place you can. In my experiences there those are always better than the larger nice restaurants. Navy Pier is the stereotypical tourist attraction so you might want to see that.

I met Smoochy's cousin Ringo at a windowless bar near the border in El Paso a couple years ago. Ringo was cool, but he didn't have much of anything good to say about his cousin. Thanks for the advice, but I think I'll pass.

Which airport are you flying into? I am guessing O'Hare. Public transit can get pretty messy in Chicago, be sure to get schedules and stuff online before you go. Sounds like fun, have a good time Mark!

I was down there last April, and it wasn't too bad. 50's and 60's for the highs the two days I was there. Check out the aquarium. The hotel I was in was a few blocks away, so my friends and I decided to check it out, and it was pretty cool.
