COP Setups...
Found this via google search.
http://www.imwinning.com/copsetups.htm Does this seem like a good deal? $250 +s&h |
Re: COP Setups...
Don't you also need a CDI box like a M&W ignition, so that they aren't actually worse than stock DSM stuff?
|
Re: COP Setups...
Yes you do, and that ad doesn't say anything about having one.
|
Re: COP Setups...
http://www.imwinning.com/instructionscop.htm looks like they dont seem to think you need a CDI box. also Buschur racing has a setup without a CDI box https://secure.buschurracing.com/cat...roducts_id=428

Re: COP Setups...
None, use the stock ignition until you've maxed it out, and be thankful you don't have a weak-ass evo ignition!

Re: COP Setups...
The reason i am even considering this is that currently i made a bracket that bolts to the block that holds my coil pack under the Magnus Intake manifold, and i feed the spark plug wires through the manifold and onto the plugs. The other day one of the spark plug wires came out of the coil packs and thus made my car run off 3 cylinders, i got it home and put it back on, but it made me realise that maybe i should look into a COP setup to clean things up.

Re: COP Setups...
I just made my coil on plug setup for under 100

Re: COP Setups...
It depends. If you actually want to make it better than the stock system, then I would run a good CDI box though. Most people do it for looks and make 300hp, so any ignition would work.
Look at the cars on that site. Scary. |
Re: COP Setups...
wow i just looked at those hack jobs they call rides.....wow

Re: COP Setups...
I got my coil on plug setup from a guy who makes them. It was 140-came with the connectors and everything pre-made. I then wired in a MSD dis-4 ignition box, and a plate it rests on on the driver's side back firewall. It's clean, and works. I have quite a few less mis-fires with it under boost, then I did before. I will see how it really holds up this summer, when I turn up the wick.

Re: COP Setups...
How much can whp can they support before they need an ignition box
|
Re: COP Setups...
depends on the car, how good the coils are, etc etc..as shane said prolly 300-400ish.

Re: COP Setups...
I dunno what they can handle. I saw somewhere say 600. But you have to remember that the stock DSM ignition can handle over 700. People wire stock DSM ignition setups into Evos. We run a COP setup with an M&W box on that white Evo. Without it, it has major ignition problems.

Re: COP Setups...
If your looking for the stuff to make your own. I have 4 new 300m coils, and a polished alu plate I will sell. All thats missing are the connectors.

Re: COP Setups...
COP on stock ecu ftl. Cop is fine when you have a standalone with 4 coil drivers, the one in the stock ecu gets burned up
|
Re: COP Setups...
so the question is.....if you use a cop setup on a DSM just plug and play by itself, will you have ignition problems, like misfire and blowout???
|
Re: COP Setups...
Swifty1638 I'd look into relocating your dis-4 I've heard of alot of people having them go bad from the engine heat and elements getting to it.

Re: COP Setups...
sorry to revive an old thread but i got a couple questions.
so with a COP setup do you need to run dsmlink or any aftermarket ecu ar can you use your stock ecu? what all will you need? i was thinking of doing this but i just want to know all of what you'll need |
