Streaming TV across net

Just wondering if anyone has set up a video stream over the internet from their house to watch somewhere else. I think this would be a fun little project as eventually I'd like to be able to stream a baseball game or two to a friend.

I know I need to aquire a capture card and decent upload speeds. Does it really matter what kind of card I get? I was looking at an all in wonder 9600 or something that is a bit older but will do what I need it to do.

If anyone has any suggestions or can speak from experience feel free to tell me what not to do. :)

We have something like this at work, but it's only for use inside the network.

I used to have a 9600 graphics card in my old tower, they are fucking awesome! Can't tell you if it would work, but they can pump out some spectacular graphics.

I've done this with a PVR350 tuner card and KnoppMyth. It worked well and had some nice features that the commercial DVRs don't have. You can do everything on it through the web including watching shows.

I really recommend the Hauppauge PVR cards, I used a PVR350 and a friend used a PVR500, both worked well.

I ended up using an AverMedia card along with windows media encoder and sopcast. Does what I need it to do and now I get to watch baseball at work. :) Go Brewers!
