Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
I graduated from Wyo in 06. The actual information and training is top fucking notch, and gives you an AWESOME base to learn from after you get out. But like any school, the amount that you learn and gain from it is all up to you and how much effort you put into it. When I left though, the ownership/managment end of the school was in the middle of big changes so I have no clue what that's like anymore. I would still suggest checking it out though. I would also check out the different campuses too, the origional Laramie, Wyoming campus isn't for everyone. If your a city kid, you might have a hard time w/ it. There's nothing to do besides going out there and becoming an alcoholic......

Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
Some will tell you Wyotech sucks and some will say UTI sucks.. It kinda depends on which location your looking at. I am personally going to go to UTI in Illinois.

Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
i can enroll right now in wyo but does degree vs diploma make a HUGE differnce in salary?
|
Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
depends what you wanna do. You don't need a fucking degree to wrench on a car. Something like that, employers are just looking for people with good training. These schools have big, reputable names for a reason. Hence the huge fucking price tag :(

Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
yes
so if i go, i can get a job pretty much anywhere? :) id LOVE to work in a performance shop |
Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
My old auto shop teacher in highschool said that schools like Wyo and UTI don't really teach you anything that you wouldn't learn at DCTC. I don't know if this is true or not. I'd think for that price tag, you better learn more than you would at DCTC...
Also one of my friends is currently at UTI in Chicago. He seems to like it a lot. Some friends and myself went to visit him pretty reciently, and by the looks of the school parking lot there is quite a few DSMers out there. |
Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
Yeh im thinking since i am 17, and i leave in july for basic for the army. Ill sell the talon and buy an fbody lol
then when i get out of college buy a dsm |
Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
In the end, the school isn't what's gonna get you the job. YOU are going to get yourself the job. Like I said, the more effort you put in, the more you'll get out and help yourself in the end. The school deffinatley opens doors for you though

Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??

I have a personality :) people like me Im hoping it gets me the doors open that i want |
Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
I graduated Wyotech(laramie) in 2000. The basic auto classes probably teach you what you'd learn anywhere, but the high performance and chassis fab is probably where the real value comes in. Although, I think the name of the two schools will get you into dealerships some other techs wouldn't get.
And to your question about the degree/diploma(associates degree I'm assuming), I'd do it. It will get you to a service manager position(later in life when your back sucks) easier then being "just a tech". But like everyone has stated, the MOST important thing, is you take the classes VERY seriously and take FULL advantage of the opportunity. Getting drunk a lot will hurt this.. I watched a lot of guys F up their schooling because of it. Laramie isn't for everyone, but I had a BLAST. Skied Steamboat more times then I can count, mountain biked some of the best trails I've ever been on, hiked some sick mountain shit, went mudding like nobodies business, went to U of W parties, got a gym membership at U of W, went down to Denver a few times, went to Cheyenne a bunch, drove out to hot springs in the mountains, did a lot of street racing on deserted mountain roads. But really, it comes down to who you make friends with, and how active you want to be. |

Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
I'm currently out at the Laramie campus in the Automoive Core and after that I'm taking High Performance Engines.
If you do go to WyoTech, don't you dare take the Applied Service Management course. I didn't learn a damn thing in it. I didn't pay attention at all after week one and pretty much fucked off the whole day and still managed above 94% each phase. It's completely disorganized, the rules are enforced like it's the military, the instructors are all looney space-cases, and if you have a problem with something, they don't give a shit and it pretty much goes unsolved. I actually almost said fuck it and dropped out because of the shit I went through in ASM, but hey, I got a 2-year Associate's Degree in 3 months, so... yay? :score007: As for the core classes, they're awesome so far. The instructors actually have experience and they love to shoot the shit and we fuck around sometimes, but in a way we're actually doin'g something. They can probably tell you everything about every make and model of car from the late 70s and on. The rules are way less restrictive and you actually are compelled to pay attention, mainly because there's so much information thrown at you at once in core. They do say that a lot of the companies that come to the WyoTech campuses prefer that you have the ASM class under your belt, and some aren't even hiring if you haven't taken it. But there are a lot of free lifetime services you get after you hire like: job relocation help, resume updating and mailing to employers of your choice, and you can even come back and take phases for free (at least my recruiter told me that). Also, when you graduate, they'll mail your resume out to up to 40 employers, so that saves some hassle of doing that. And you can't get a job anywhere when you graduate. A LOT of companies require you practically be an honor student with perfect attendance just to get an interview. And if you talk to a recruiter, he'll tell you that 95% or something of the graduates get "placed in the field." And that includes all the idiots that graduated and now work at the friendly neighborhood Jiffy Lube. If you put into it what you want out of it, you'll get it. Otherwise you'll end up paying your giant loan off making barely enough money to pay rent or mortgage. I will say that Laramie is pretty lame though. I find it boring in town, and rarely am. I go to Ft. Collins every weekend, or out to the mountains to hunt and fish and just to be out there. So all in all, I'd say WyoTech is a pretty good school, but UTI isn't a bad choice either. |

Perfect attendance is key to getting hired, and a GPA above 95% will get you better starting pay(at dealerships). |
Re: Any one go to Wyotech?? UTI??
I wish I could have gotten my A.A.S. degree in three months. I'd have jumped at the chance!

You have to understand that now Wyotech is run by Corinthian Collages its more like a business than a school, you have to squeeze you education out of them in a way. I will say you will get just as good of an education at a good community collage, but the way Wyotech is set up it tends to make students apply themselves more. I would stay away from their diesel program too, they have better equipment, but you fellow students are STUPID! (I took auto and diesel) you can PM me if you want more info ^BTW I don't think its an A.A.S. degree, its an Associate of Specialized Technology degree GET ANYTHING YOUR WYOTECH RECRUITER PROMISES TO YOU IN WRITING!!! many people have been shafted by those guys . |
