Jet Coating Manifold

Does anyone know of anywhere local that does a decent job, for a decent price? Looking to get my new exhaust manifold coated in and out with some form of black heat coating.

I'm also looking at just purchasing some of Techline's coating and just doing it myself. Just seeing if anyone else out there has any other ideas or knows of some other options locally.

1) DIY Techline Coatings (4oz coverage ~ 2 small v8 headers)
- Satin Black - $19.95 (4oz.) $49.95 (12oz.)
- TurboX - $49.95 (8oz.)
2) FFPerformance (St. Paul)
- TurboX Manifold - $100 (+$30 to also do Turbo Exh Housing)
3) New Image Coatings (Circle Pines) - $xx

form and function performance in st. paul does ceramic coating.

I have it on the hot side of my turbo, i took the car around the block and i could touch the turbo.
I could also tell the diff. under the hood (lift it up after driving and not as hot)
I will be getting everything else coated as soon as i can get some $$,

Tell him i sent you

Hrm, I think there was a place up in the blaine or coon rapids area that would do it....or maybe it was forest lake. Try searching on here, I was asking about this a while ago. I had my stuff done through buschur, I believe it's Jet hot coating, but its shiny silver....

Brandon, you should buy the stuff and do it yourself! Then maybe I can have you do some more of my stuff..... :)

Time to pull the turbos apart again :)

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

Is this a good idea for all types of manifolds (like cast log-style)?

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

Sure. Keeps the heat in and they won't get rusty.

I just got ahold of Techline, and they sell to the public. They said that you just need to call their Texas office to order @ 1-972-775-6130 if anyone is interested. I'm looking into their Satin Black coating, which is supposed to be good up to 2000*F. Anyone have any idea what the manifolds get up to? I don't think my EGT's get that high, but does the manifold? They have another option called TurboX which is supposed to be for turbocharged applications. It's what I heard Boost Factory was using when they did it for people, but is significantly more expensive then the satin black.

I'd like to do it myself, but they say that you're supposed to blast it before you apply the coating, and I don't have a blaster. So I am going to try pricing out a couple places before I go and buy it myself.

Just left that FF place a message. I'll just update the first post with the different prices at different places I've found.

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

Your manifold won't get any hotter than your exhaust which really shouldn't be getting above 1600 degrees. My guess is that the manifold stays at least a few hundred degrees cooler than that.

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

i had used some high temp (up to 1600) and it ended up slowly burning off of my manifold... i think it was from all the heating and cooling and just not being made for a turbo application. If you get the spray on i'd spend the extra cash.... plus one rattle can let me do my hotside and south florida performance manifold.

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

Brandon is talking about about real coating, not the spray paint stuff.

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

I'm not spray painting it.

My manifold is off at Jet-hot right now getting the jet-hot2000 coating done to it. Should be around $100 he said. To me its worth not having my hood all screwed up from the heat.

ah.... well i knew it wouldn't last long term, just needed a quick fix. You going to start doing this like the powder coating?

http://www.grimmspeed.com/

Justin is here in St. Paul and has his own shop. Call him before you ship stuff out. He has blue and black as far as I know. He might have red. Not 100% sure. He also does alot of P&P on stuff as well as custom Subaru parts.

Seriously... Call him first. I have an up-pipe on my subaru from him and had it coated. He does a top notch job.

^same place as FF perf.

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

Well neither of the two places listed above have called me back.

I did try getting ahold of Grim Speed through AIM, but we have bad timing and keep missing each other.

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

Just got a call from FF. I put the prices they quoted me up above. I found out that them and GrimSpeed are basically the same. Different people, but working out of the same shop. The FF guy seemed like a good guy, and I think I'll just drop the extra cash to have him do both my manifold and my Exhaust Housing once it gets here. He has blue and black there, and I think I'm going to go with black, but I'll have to see what his blue looks like.

Re: Jet Coating Manifold

on average, how much does ceramic coating a manifold cost? I wish to do this to my DNP, as the CF hood HATES the heat it gives off. I already have my new exhaust housing coated (bought it that way) but the manifold I'm curious on..and is it any more or less for certain colors? I was looking into doing it like a silver, or brushed silver look, similar to AMS's manifolds they send in their evo 35r kits..
