clutch kit suggestion

hey, just wondering which clutch kits you guys use. I'm planning to install some this coming up summer, but cant seem to find which has better quality. I already have a 2100, just wondering what you guys usefor a street car. i was wondering about the 4 or 6 puckclutch..??? also, my revs arent dropping as fast and it isnt catching when switching gears...some suggestions would be awesome. thanks!

What kind of power are you planning on making? I have really enjoyed my RRE X-Clutch and it's held my 50-trim power levels just fine. Plus they have excellent customer service!

ACT2600 Street Disc Clutch with ACT 11lb Flywheel. So far love it!

Re: clutch kit suggestion

How much power are you making or planning on making? A puck clutch is overkill for 99% of DSM's.

Southbend DXD! Light pedal pressure, huge clamping force, and awesome driveability.

I am in this same situation unfortunately. I've got an ACT 2600 now and I'm pushing around 300awhp. This clutch is about 4 years old I'd believe and it's starting to go. I think I'm planning on going with an ACT 2900 because they aren't much more than the 2600. If anybody has any links saved that talk about different clutch setups or descriptions of what is what I would love to see em!

Re: clutch kit suggestion

A 2600 should be able to hold 300awhp. I'm at 366 on my X-Clutch, which could be somewhat compared to a 2600.

^Yea they are rated for over 300 but after you drive and beat on it so much it'll wear out. That's what happend to mine.

I meant, why not just go with another 2600 if it worked well for you. A 2900 at 300hp is a little overkill I'd think.

I have an ACT 2600 Organic in the Talon. The current disc been in there at least 3 years, maybe longer, the pressure plate might be 5+ years old. It made 467awhp/40Xawtq on our Dyno Dynamics at the MitsuStyle dyno day. I want to replace it with something else in the spring that can handle a bit more power.

For a good street clutch I really recomend the Southbend DXD, it was a great clutch in my Laser.

You said its 4 years old. Clutches are wear items, I doubt its your power level that wore it out.

I'm pretty sure the 2900's were not much more than the 2600's. If that is the case then why not just get the tougher clutch? Yea a 2600 would be fine for 300whp, but wouldn't a 2900 last longer under the same conditions?

Kracka 01-04-2008 01:37 PM

Re: clutch kit suggestion

The 2900 will put more wear and tear on your crank bearings, drivetrain, clutch hydraulic system, pedal assembly, and leg.

Brian, I don't know how you drive, but I got a good 20,000 miles out of my 2600/street disc on my 430whp car I beat on daily. :)

Didn't your Southbend fail shortly after it was installed?

Check out these offerings from Fidanza, every review I have seen has been excellent and they have a wide range of kits for every power level:

For the most part I baby the heck outa my car. Sure I've launched a few times, but I'm no ricer kid that does it at every stoplight haha. This clutch was in the car when I bought it. Kracka could tell you more about the guy that owned it before me, but my impression was that he half-assed stuff and didn't treat the car very well. I've owned the car for about 3 years now and I know for a fact the clutch is starting to go. Honestly, I don't know how long the clutch has been in or how many miles are on it. I just guessed around 4 years.

I've ruled out puck clutches for a dd after doing a little more reading about them. I may just stick with my 2600 unless I find a better deal.

I'd go with a Southbend DXD instead of the ACT 2600, they make an awesome DSM clutch.
