Went to V.I.R. this weekend
So this weekend I went to VIR to race with my brother again. (went last month also) This time it was with the "Chin Motorsports" group. Instead of the NNJR PCA group from last month.
And my first impressions are... this group blew the other one out of the water. First off as a passanger you can ride with anyone but beginners. So for the first time I got to ride in my brother's 1984 Porsche 911. (big mistake! kid drives so god damn fast around the corners made me almost throw up, I spent the rest of the first day trying to get better) So I just sat on the side lines getting a Tan (68 degree's) and watched for the rest of Saturday Sunday was 77 degree's - but I wasn't feeling good in the morning(7am wake up) still so I sleeped in and missed the morning run group and the open warm up laps in the morning (meaning anyone can drive but no passing allowed, ie: the time when I get to drive) When I woke up at 10am I felt great so I headed down to the pit's. And started to look for my first ride! Just so happened one of the 3-04GT3's that came with my brother from NJ had an open seat so I road with him. First time in a GT3 - and it was sick! I could not believe the handling of the car. The guy driving is one of the Chin Instructors and was really pushing it. 3 laps in a row though at the end of turn one we got completely sideways and was saying the 2 words you don't want to hear when racing "OH SHIT" through the chatter box. (but as it turns out everyone else was having the same problems guess rubber was starting to get put down making it slick) After that I headed to the Ferrari 430 Challenge car. Guys name was Stuart and he had the room next to us at the hotel so we got to know him (ie: wanted a ride so we made it a point to introduce ourselves) He was only going to stay for that 30min session before heading home so my brother got the first 15 minutes, and I got the 2nd 15 minutes. Good thing too. The guy had the car for only 2 months so he was only going 7/10 potential, but still fun. Only problem was a 6'4" man wearing a helmet CANNOT!!!!!!! fit in the damn thing! The entire 15 minutes I had to rest my helmet on my shoulder, I had such a neck pain after that it almost ruined the rest of the day for me. Personally I think the GT3 handled better but again the guy wasn't pushing it as hard as the instructor so it's hard to judge the cars potential. After that I decided to give my brother 1 more try, he had 2 meraculious saves around turn one and 1 was a complete drift around the whole turn I honestly thought were were going off his rear end was so far around. Out of all the cars I road in after watching speedo's, etc. he definetely was the fastest around most of the corners but just doesn't have the power to keep up in the straights. The GT3 was hitting 145mph in the straights, the Ferrari was hitting 138mph (was full throttle for the straights), and my brother was only getting to 130mph if he pushed his braking zone as far as he could. But that's expected my brothers maybe making mid to low 200whp. while they were making around 400whp. NO crash's this month (last month when i was there a guy just destroyed his 07 GT3 put it nose into the wall at turn 5) But one of the GT3's that came down with my brother spun in the last session's and messed knocked something loose from his motor. So we spend Sunday night trying to fix it. (got to work on my first GT3 also this weekend) motor bay was way to cramped to fix the problem. It was like his MAS came loose or something or a blown I/C pipe for us DSMr's. No idea what the thing is called for the Porsche my brother and I were the ones who figured it out. But unfortunetely it was located in the back of the engine bay and you have to drop the motor to fix it. So we spent the night and took it to Synergy race shop and they confirmed our finding's and said a dealership will have to drop the car. After that we loaded it up on my brothers trailer and we headed for him. Not a bad ride home with the top down in the 83 degree weather! hehehe I just have to rub it in, but you guys can give me shit one summer hits and it's like 110 out and just freakin rediculious to even try to go outside down here. |

Stop describing the temperature, it will only get you killed.
Sounds like a blast. |
Re: Went to V.I.R. this weekend
Ya Andy said the same thing when we talked while I was at the track but it's ok, I'll be up there last week of January for Ogie's birthday party bus, so I'll have to share in your pain's one last time.
It's funny last month it was mid 40's, you didn't even want to get out of the cars it was so cold. It was almost 40 degrees warmer this month. Anything going on last week of january? I haven't got my plane ticket yet and I can make it for when ever to when ever. |
Re: Went to V.I.R. this weekend
I'll be having a DSM Style bash at the new house around then, not sure when exactly it will be though.

Re: Went to V.I.R. this weekend
Just let me know. Only thing I'm trying to work out is times/etc. Ogie works but only has that fri-sun off to pick me up and drop me off. If I can get a ride some other time I'll come up and leave when ever.

For sure. Already sounds like the old clubing group is getting together. recieved Myspace messages from - Lindsey, Michelle, and Brooke asking when I'm going to be in town. Only one missing is Tammy but don't think she talks to any of the old group any more.
