Interesting, and yet sad..
Concept Eclipse:
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/27/d...sh-concept-ra/ turbodiesel, awd, but 2.2L? and only 200 hp?.. confused. |
Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
Not every car is a sports car.

Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
cool concept

Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
Whats so confusing? Turbo deisels dont make as high of HP, they make lots of torque.
Interesting design though. |
Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
sweet.

Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
Yeah, that would rock! You can do a lot with diesels, just look at the big ass trucks.

Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
310ft-lbs sounds nice.
My old roomate drove a VW diesel with a chip in it. HP was probably around 100, but with the torque it was actually pretty peppy. Plus the 45mpg city was pretty nice too. |

If you don't rev high, hp numbers won't look impressive. My buddies truck only puts out 250hp, but it puts out 600ft/lbs so it moves alright for a 7000lb vehicle, at least way better than the 250hp would make it seem. |
Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
Audi R10, thats all you need to know about "performance" diesels. They have potential in the consumer world. I'm sure we've all seen the vids of the many gigantic pickup diesels running 10's..
I think there would be a huge market for this thing. Making power/tq would be pretty easy, keeping a tranny from shattering will be the hard part. Maybe Shep will have a whole new market to master. Not to mention, it could be tuned to get great mileage at the same time. I'd consider one.. |
Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
And its easy to convert a diesel to run on used cooking oil or bio diesel, which they say is the future of keeping cars on the road. Now I have a modern car to save up for.

It's actually kinda cool. It kind of looks like they are finaly getting away from the green-house look.

Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
I'm just confused as to why 2.2L and is it going to be another newly designed block? Because isn't the Evo X using a newly designed Mitsu block?

Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
I'm just wondering what the MSRP is going to be... the reason they cheaped out on the RA Eclipse (pic posted above) was because the cost would be in the neighborhood of an EVO 9, and it would also be an AWD turbo, so they would basically have a sport coupe and sedan in their own line-up competing against each other.
At least that's what I heard. So if they next generation Eclipse turns out to be the turbodiesel 2.2L AWD compact, i'd be interested to see the price tag. As much as I like my v6, I wish they had stuck with the 4 cyl NA and 4 cyl turbo of the DSM era. |
Re: Interesting, and yet sad..
I would hope that the new diesel engine block would be designed close to a gas engine block and hopefully with a little bit of modification could be switch to gas. Diesel blocks are always overbuilt.
but probably not... |
