wants to die at 4500 rpm at WOT

I dunno what the hell is going on with my car but here is whats happing.
car 98 gst
14b
bolts on and mbc @12 or 15 lbs.
So heres the deal I just had some work done on my car because a exhaust manifold gasket needed to be replaced and so that was done and i was driving back on the freeway and wanted to finally be able to get on the gas and make some boost. Because it was a pretty bad leak and it wouldnt build boost very well. So Im at WOT and at like 4500 rpms the engine just wants to die it felt like it was bogging down and would go over that at all with out dying. I did notice this before about a couple weeks ago and figure it was because everything wasnt able to keep up because of the bad leak. Any input would be great thanks guys.

Spark plugs? Wires? How old are they?

Try a boost leak test.

Let me guess... you bought them and threw them right in.

Get some new plugs and gap them down to .025 and see if that helps.

.025 i think you meant. A quarter inch may be a bit much.:)

No I gaped them. I used to work in a shop. Im not that dumb. But ya Im gonna hopefully throw some new plugs and wires in first. But i leave on a deployment in the beggining of dec so it may have to sit and wait a while.

I maybe shooting in the wind here, but have you also tried fiddling with the MBC. You dont have it cranked up to max do you?

Good chance old stuff and the spark isn't getting through strong and getting blown away.

Make sure nothing is loose on the coil pack and transistor pack(ignitor). When was the fuel filter changed last?

You don't think a 14b will overboost a car? Think again! You aren't dealing with a T25. I also agree that the plugs are probably crap. For a street car I would go .028" on the gap, NGK coppers of course.

overboost? I havent heard of that. Could you explain what you mean. I think I have a idea just by the name.

Re: wants to die at 4500 rpm at WOT

you need not worry about overboost if you actually are somewhere between 12-15psi at WOT.

Bad gasoline will cause excess knock, your engine will pull timing, it will feel like the car is falling on its face, this means your knock sensor is working.

I know they dont teach you much in the Gavy, but I will share some Army knowledge with you: Get a datalogger and see whats going on during the malfunction.

Hey there. They teach me how to fix hydraulics and servos, but not engines and turbos.

Army FTW, Hooooaaahhhh!!!

Overboost, it just sounds like you think the 14b couldn't make too much boost, even if the boost controller was set wrong. If you are between 12-15 psi for sure, then you are fine.
