WoW... What A Week!
I drive a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST that I picked up in May bone stock. So on Friday 11/9 my water pump went out and after putting in a new water pump on the 11th my starter went out. Since I have the walbro 255 and it takes a few tries to start the car while it builds up fuel pressure it finally decided to go out. After waiting a few days to get a new starter I got the car running again on Friday night 11/16 but when I drove the car around every time I would hit 3k rpm's I would hear this terrible noise and feel vibration. I could not think of what what causing the vibration. Me and a friend thought it could be the balance shafts since I did remove my AC. After realigning the balance shafts yesterday I drove around and it was still vibrating and feeling sluggish. I drove home (20 miles) and went to meet up with some girl to buy my old ECU. After the long drive I got off the freeway and was at a stop light and had the car in 1st gear with my clutch pushed in and when my light turned green I brought up the clutch but the clutch never came up and the car just kept accelerating. I could not pull it out of first gear, so I immedianlty pulled into a small center with small businesses and just parked there. So do you guys think I was hearing my pressure plate and throwout bearing vibrating? Was this my warning my clutch was going out?

Re: WoW... What A Week!
It could be. You might have lost part of the disk and it jammed in there, or a spring. You can get the balance shaft a rotation off, it is easy to do. Did you stick the screwdriver in the side of the block to check it?

It's very possible that yoru clutch let go. My 1g did the same thing. The vibration slowly got worse and worse until the clutch said fuck it and went bye bye

Re: WoW... What A Week!
I wonder if the flywheel is damaged at all.

Re: WoW... What A Week!
Probably not much. The disk usually trashes itself.

Re: WoW... What A Week!
I also originally thought that i may have misaligned the balance shafts, but i took off the timing belt again and made sure the balance shafts were perfectly aligned. After finishing that the vibration continued.
Its definatly been a very trying couple weeks. and now this. I was thinking that maybe the TO bearing went through the PP. Which i have seen happen. You should be able to wiggle the clutch fork if it did go through right guys? |
Re: WoW... What A Week!
The marks on the balance shafts will all line up, but it can still be a turn off. You have to put the screwdriver into the block to see which way it is rotated.
