Project Turbo Snowmobile
Well now that winter is coming and the car is going to be parked, I have a feeling that boost withdrawl so I am going to start a turbo kit for my 2003 Polaris Edge X 600. The snowmobile starts out with 120 HP and I am hoping to increase it by at least 30-40. Things ill need are
-T-25 (have one thanks Blageo23) But need at least 1 more for a spair -Electric inline fuel pump (This one I am thinking) -Boost sensor like in a methanol kit for activation -Various boost pipes and couplers and clamps -Stock DSM intercooler (Let me know if you have one) -Boost gauge (Let me know if you have one) -EGT gauge for tuning (Already have) -Custom manifold and downpipe (making at the moment) The problem I am having right now is trying to find that sensor to give the fuel pump the needed power to turn on depending on the amount of boost. I need one out of a methanol kit or similar but cant find one. It needs to be variable so the fuel pump pressure can rise as boost does. Anyone have one or a link to where I can get one of these? Later on after everything is working the intercooler will be fabed up, cooling system attached to the turbo, as well as an oiling system for the turbo but for now it will be direct air from turbo to engine at very low boost, sealed oil housing on turbo and no coolant to the turbo either. I am going to do a little research to find out how much timing I will have to take out as wellfor 2-5 psi boost. I will post up photos in a day or so of the progress. You should use a 9B or something smaller, a T25 is going to be too big for that small engine. You shouldn't have to worry about coolant going to the turbo, but I imagine that a fresh supply of oil would be necessary and would be sufficient to cool it as well.

Yeah, it's going to be cold, but if you can hook up coolant lines, it would be better for longevity - anyone who's ridden snowmobiles knows that you spend a lot of time at WOT.
Why don't you ebay a fuel pressure regulator (unless it's got carbs). |

Ya it has carbs. I am now looking for a boost switch if anyone has one let me know. It doesnt have to ve variable. Anyone know where you can get a simple switch that will activate above 1 psi or so.

I agree, get a 9b off a 3S, a T25 is way too big for 600cc.

pick up a hobbs switch from somewhere. Use that to trigger a fuel pump relay

Is it possible to just run a rising rate regulator like DSM's have? That sounds a lot easier and you don't have the lag time for the fuel pump to get going, where you will run very lean. Ever notice how long the fuel pump runs when you put the key in the on position to get pressure? It has to be a good 3 seconds to full pressure.

or put a furl injector in the boost tube before the Carbs and buy yourself a megasquirt.

There has got to be a rising rate regulator, but the problem will be finding one that's rising rate for carb pressures. What did factory carb'd turbo vehicles run? Turbo trans am and such. There has got to be an aftermarket replacement regulator.

Just get a nitrous fogger and use that to spray fuel at wot or close to it.

There are lots of carb'd cars with turbos, look to see how they do it.

I know on cars you need a carb enclosure or a boost friendly carb to be able to run forced induction. You cant just boost a regular carb.
Are the carbs on sleds able to handle this? |

last winter my friend turbo'd his rmk 700 with a 14b and that thing was fast! i can see what he has to say about yours...

He had a 14b on a 700?? Wow, that is 1/3 the dispacement of a DSM. He probably hit boost around 7k, which might be acceptable on a sled with their clutch setup. Maybe the T25 would work OK on a 600.

I seen different kits that are manufactured online and they use a g t-25 isnt that the same?

The other thing with a snowmobile is that its a 2 stroke so there is exhaust gas leaving every upstroke compared to once every two with a 4 stroke. I agree, I think a T25 would be a bit big for a snowmobile, but I dont think it would be as bad as it seems either.

Any way to reduce the psi of the stock wastegate to say a minimum of 3-4 psi and then i can turn it up from there without having it start open? Links to aftermarket wastegates for the internal setup?

one thing that I remember from when I was looking into turboing my yamaha viper is that you still have to keep the bulge pipes. These are what pull the exhaust out of the engine and keep it running good. You could get away without them but your low end would be horrible. Again, I would look into adding some secondary fuel farther upstream to help compensate for the boost pushing the mixture strait out of the cylinders.
