2g tranny help
The tranny differential in my FWD 5spd '99 eclipse spyder gs-t is out and I'm debating whether to rebuild it or just buy another used tranny so I can get the thing running again. Not sure which one would be a cheaper route.
If, I do rebuild it I was thinking since its off might as well insert LSD but then it comes to which one should I go with. Any opinions would greatly be appreciated. quick list of my mods: evo 3 turbo ETS 7' FMIC 680cc injectors 190lph & rewired tubular o2 housing 3in turbo back n1 exhaust GM MAF-T AFPR SAFC |
Re: 2g tranny help
If you do a rebuild I would recomend a stage two at least. TRE and shep are you choices. I think 1300 to 1900.

I love my Shep tranny. I believe Shep has an LSD insert for FWD on his site for $175. |
Re: 2g tranny help
have you taken the tranny out of your car yet? many times when the diff goes out in the FWD DSM's, it throws a pin right out through the tranny and recks the case.

Not yet. I plan to take it out this weekend.

Re: 2g tranny help
if you can afford it, or find a way to afford it I would def. go with a built tranny of some sort. It will last alot longer and save you the headaches down the road of doing another swap or just having choppy shifting. Also, if you do go new you can get an lsd which will be nice for if you ever up the power more and if you like them the 10% taller 5th which I figure could up the highway mpg a couple... but if cash is tight look for a low mileage one and do an lsd insert or something

Re: 2g tranny help
I don't plan to race the car that often. First I can't cause the track here (WIR) won't let me run w/o atleast a roll bar and second its my every day DD :P.
As of right now I'm just gonna hold off rebuilding it till spring for I still have college tuition and other random bills to pay off first. But when I do it I think instead of a generic LSD insert I'm gonna go with a QUAIFE diff. |
