Re: No Smoking In MN
AMEN. The calls were pouring in on KTLK this morning, someone actually suggested not going to any restaurants in protest. Yeah, that will really show 'em. :rollinglaugh:

Re: No Smoking In MN
Woo Hoo! Now if they could just inforce that rule where you can't smoke 2 ft from the door.

Re: No Smoking In MN
Kind of a double edged sword, on one hand you are infringing on rights of smokers, and on the other you are infringing on rights on non-smokers who don't smoke because they are smart and don't want to increase their risk of cancer.

Re: No Smoking In MN
Smokers don't have the right to harm other people. How are the rights of non-smokers being infringed on?

Re: No Smoking In MN
I'm really glad about this. After being a smoker for as long as I was and hitting my 1 year smoke free mark today (cold turkey!), I'm converted to one of those guys who hates the smell, and equally hates even being behind a car in rush hour traffic that is smoking. That shit can get back into my car as well and it's nasty. Now I know how others must of felt.

Re: No Smoking In MN
These threads (here and mnscc) are the first I've heard of this. So, I want to know, does this include my college campus or is this just for indoors stuff?

Re: No Smoking In MN
they do need to put a ban on people smoking right outside of the doors as well. they should put it at least 10 feet away from the door.
Not like being so close to the door helps keep them warm. Move that shit away from the door so i don't have to inhale it as i walk in or have to squeze between them to get into a place. ING has had a non smoking policy indoors for as long as i have been there and probably longer than that, pretty much any bigg office company had the no smoking indoors policy. its great, but then you get 20 people huddled around the entrance door with the cigarete butts just sitting right there stinking by the entrance where you have to walk by EVERY TIME! .. It is a great ways for managers to see who is more productive than not, when you see a smoker going out there every 40 minutes to light one up and stay out there for 10 minutes each time. |
Re: No Smoking In MN
At my previous job the only place people could smoke was the little roped-off section on the 2nd level of the parking ramp.

Re: No Smoking In MN
Isnt there a 25ft rule in place about smoking by the doors?
|
Re: No Smoking In MN
Yay, now I won't smell like shit when I leave bars.

Re: No Smoking In MN
My favorite company was Kelloggs, the cereal company. I used to work with them at their main Battle Creek, Michigan facility. They had a no-smoking on the PROPERTY rule, and that was back in 1999. It was funny watching people huddled up across the street a block away in the winter smoking. I bet productivity went up tremendously when they enacted that rule.
It's actually going to benefit some places more now. I've purposely avoided restaurants in Coon Rapids because it wasn't smoke-free up there compared to Brooklyn Park. Now our family will go out to eat up there more often. |
Re: No Smoking In MN
The doorways have always been a problem so at least this deals with the bigger side of the problem. It's a start. Bars will probably smell for quite some time unless a major cleaning takes place. Maybe now at least the ozone generators have a shot at keeping up though.
