So I've been teaching Miranda how to drive my car. Today was the second day she had driven it, and she drove us home from Lake Merion to Farmington. She never stalled it. Not once. She even took on a few up and down hills.
The only time she had problems was going up our driveway...in which she had to do a little burnout to accomplish. :3gears: |
Go me!!!!!

Ah i remember teaching the girl friend how to drive a stick. learned very quick i only got pissed once going about 30 and she went in first instead of third and let the clutch out part way but she caught on right away on the second day she took my car out for the day and only killed it once when there was a cop behind her at a light, she got nervous.

that thing still have a stock clutch? Or are you teaching her with a 2600 or sumthin!!
|
Go Miranda!!! Any tips? I'm going to be learning here pretty soon :)

P.S. with everyone learning how to drive a stick I want to as well lol. I guess I need to get normal driving down more pat considering that I have been driving for less than a year. |
Anyone who has driven a dirtbike or a manual fourwheeler can do it. It's not to tough just tryin to shift speed style is hard at first.
|
The very single first time I took my g/f out, we went driving for like an hour. She never stalled it once, and was on a hill a couple times. Needless to say I was proud of her. She now has an '02 Celica GT-S 6pd.

just remember miranda, caress the stick, its your friend, talk to it. if it spits at you it doesnt mean it doesnt like you, its a sign that it appreciates what your doing. LOL

Good job Miranda. However, I refuse to teach a girl on my car, Colin (cudvig) did with his 240, and now has no clutch

I taught my GF how to drive a 94 Talon NT with a 5speed. Within an hour from leaving Metro Mitsu she was really getting the hang of it. Of course she had a cop following her for a couple miles at one point. She kept chirping the tires when the cop was behind us becuase she got so nervous. :3gears:
She went on to buy the 95 Talon TSi AWD that I now own. She would love to shut people down who would try to pass her when she owned the car. She said some guys would give her shit for driving the car like she didn't now what she had, she would just launch on them and speed away usually. She finally decided she had enough of the stick shifts after a few years, she was sick of commuting in traffic with a stick shift to the UofM from coon rapids everyday. She still drives my car occasionaly, I can't wait to let her try out the ACT 2600 once its installed. ;) |
Jim, you ran 12's on a stock clutch?
Learning a stick for the first time can be easy or difficult depending on the car and the condition of the clutch. It took me about a week to get it totally down (no jerking at all). I know several peole who say they can drive a stick well but jerk every gear they hit and rev to 2000 rpm before they get going. I don't call that knowing how to drive a stick. Some clutches engage really quickly and others are at the end of the pedal. It is just something that takes practice to get down. |

I seem to have a problem remembering what gear im in when I have to downshift. I just cant tell sometimes and I end up thinking Im in like 2nd when Im in 4th or something. Its a pain but I'll get it. And it seems like ricks clutch is hard to push down all the way. Maybe Im just being too much of a girl.
|
when you are downshifting you can always push the stick over to the right or left when in netural cause if it moves both ways then your in 4th if it only will move right your in 2nd. Just a suggestion but like I said I don't know how to drive one so don't take me to serious. I think it is mainly just something that you will be able to feel naturally without doing anything over time.
If someone who knows ho wto drive one can correct me if I'm wrong that would be great. |
