Winner reflects on nightmare lottery

http://www.cnn.com/2007/LIVING/wayof....ap/index.html

After reading this and putting yourself in that spot after winning 315 million, would it really be worth it?

I know it not that same as a normal guy that makes 40k a year winning it like this guy who has already made 17 million in his own business. But I keep thinking about all the good shit I'd do with lotterly money (going to the bank to pay off all my families farm debt and paying off my sisters school loans and such), but thinking about how people would be looking for every chance to take advantage of you would really suck.

Yeah, people would beg you to give them money, but when you win something like that, you have to take a hard line. Basically, put it all in a CD for at least a year, just pay the taxes on the winnings, then sit around and think about what you want to spend it on the most, because buying crap immediately is a mistake.

edit: and I just read most of the story. Looks like he was a REAL winner to begin with.

good find. yeah i heard about this guy and some of the stuff that happened to him after he won. he sounds like a decent guy, just got caught up in the fame and money.

this reminds me of that new show on discovery (or TLC, etc) detailing the lives of people after they won the lottery.

Honestly if I won the Lotto, The media would love me, i really could give two shits as to what fame would bring.
Although, Brent Rau would have a really hard time beating me in a DSM Race. LOL

Is a person legally obligated to release their identity to the public when winning the lottery?

I think so but i know one guy waited the full period of time before he claimed it (i think they give a year) so that people would forget about him. Then claimed it under the radar. Very smart thing to do.

I already know what i would do with the money! lol...

would only take few months to line most of it up and then the rest of my life as well as my grand kids lives wouldn't have to really work other than to just go and deposit checks and collect cash.
