Another Computer Thread - Our new one.

Well, we where looking for a new desktop and while we could of gone with another dell we decided to get some help and look at putting one together. With the help and input of Chris, Matt, Nash, and an co-worker of Jana's this is what we are going with.

mwave... haven't ordered from them since like 2000, have you checked the prices vs www.newegg.com?

Looks good though man.... video card could be better but I won't get into that.

Re: Another Computer Thread - Our new one.

By all means, do get into it. If I'm spending the moeny now, I don't want to have to upgrade in 3 months. From what I've looked at, newegg and mwave are pretty close on the pricing, just not a ton of the same parts and newegg didn't have the case we wanted.

I would buy DDR2 800 ram this is how fast the ram is, then look at a 8800 series graphics card, are you planning on running windows vista? if so buy a lot more ram, 4gigs, 2x2 DDR2 800.

That MB will take 4 sticks, so he can always upgrade later if he wants, I would suggest 4 GB to start also with Vista. He is running a 1333 mhz FSB, so 667 DDR2 should be just fine, unless he wants to overclock it, but I doubt AJ would.

I'd save money and buy a sweet o'clocking core, maybe get the e6600 as it has the desirable x9 multiplier. Many have run that near 3.5 ghz speeds with a decent HSF.

Re: Another Computer Thread - Our new one.

Aj it sounds great. But why buy another SATA cable does your Motherboard come with one? And also what kinda PSU(Powersupply) is in that case? Thanks.... If you want get the Corsair RAM chips. They are highly praised in the gaming world. I just noticed you have a floppy drive. Them are not needed. But I also see the 7in1 option for the mem sticks. But eh...so far so good.

Just as a quick note, this isn't being built as the ultimate gaming system by any means. More for work, multitasking first. And it will run XP (Probably Media Edition), Fuck Vista.

I don't know what half the shit some of you guys are saying means. :)

Added links to the video card and MB in the first thread.

Aj...don't worry about my talk about the floppy drive.... It is kinda odd to see that on the new box's. Thats all. I don't even have a floppy drive!!!

But this is the Memory sticks I was talking about. Granted you do not need to buy this set. But just a help in the right direction. CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB KIT

Goddamn I am behind the times! My first overclock was a pentium 100 @ 120Mhz (or was it a 66Mhz 486? I don't remember...), my current 'setup' (I use my macbook almost exclusively now) is an 'old' AMD 2500+ (1833Mhz) running at 2366Mhz :D It's been running flawlessly for like 4 years now!

Oh and AJ woot! on the Fatal1ty mobo.....hotness :D

Get a GeForce 8800GTS, only $279 and uber frame rates in everything. I can run all games I own at FULL BLAST. I love it.
With the 8800GTS, I don't think you'll need to upgrade that for a while, I don't see games getting any more complicated with DX10 only being used in like 5 games now, even though it came out with Vista almost months ago now.

Lost Planet FTW!!!

Again, this is not a Gaming System.... it is my computer for me.. and mainly for working from home so I'll be running Applications (not games).

I'm not looking to spend $280 on a video card.

Well, you did say it there. Yea, $280 is a bit spendy I guess. But the 8500GT should work if you plan on light gaming.

Re: Another Computer Thread - Our new one.

Ok I can't talk long, work has BLOWN cock today. Anyway I did some research and found out that an 8600GTS would probably better for the money. You can find them for about 150-170 dollars and they are about twice as fast.

Here's a good benchmark...
http://www.pro-clockers.com/review.php?id=216&page=6

Product at (with customer reviews)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121069

Overclocking (MILDLY) would possibly be a good idea, you could save about 100 dollars by getting the next step or 2 down and end up with the same speed.

Anyway... word

I have that case in a box at home. Opened it up but I don't have time or money to build it up. I'd sell it to you a bit off retail if you're interested.

I don't know where the link is, im looking for it right now. I know its black and it has ducting in it to divert air and all that non-sense.

I hate to sell it but my car is almost done and I'm looking to get all the little moneys I can.

Overall...you should be happy with it. I'd personally get a better Video card, that 8800 GTS sounds pretty good, oops that ones more than $280 :haker:
