Oil Feed pressure w/BS Elim concern
1G 6-bolt running turbo oil feed off filter housing.
Question is, with the BS Elimination mod done to the engine, will there be too much oil pressure going to the turbo? I will be putting a brand new turbo on it, and would rather not wreck it (if that's the case). If this is a problem, what's the best solution? Running from head isn't really an option (threads are wrecked). |
Re: Oil Feed pressure w/BS Elim concern
A thrust washer turbo should be ok. A ball bearing turbo will not.

PTE sends restrictors with a BB center section, the standard bearing turbos they want them off the oil filter housing. Any MHI turbos should be able to handle the high pressure.

Re: Oil Feed pressure w/BS Elim concern
Forced Performance makes a pressure restrictor that cuts the pressure down. They have two different sized orifaces, one for bb turbos, and one for journal bearing turbos. It's kinda nice, cuz they use a filter in it just for extra assurance that no crap is gonna get into your turbo.

Excellent, thanks for the help everyone!

That looks like a nice unit, but make sure it does not get cloged, that would suck.

Re: Oil Feed pressure w/BS Elim concern
That's why they suggest that you check and clean it with every oil change. Besides, it's not likely something would get in there, considering it's doming directly off the oil filter housing. Unless you have it feeding off the head, then the chances if it catching debris would go up.

Have access to a lathe and die? If you do and don't want the filter feature, I'd make your own.
