pickin up guitar again
I know there are a lot of guitar junkies on the board and I am looking to start up again. I've got an acoustic and an electric. I'm more of an acoustic fan though considering I haven't touched my electric guitar in years. Anyways, I've got all the basic chords down, but I'm just lookin to refresh on that and learn some fun little songs. Anybody have any advice on how to accelerate my learning? I had lessons a long time ago but that didn't do much. I hear of people teaching themselves all the time and I want to know what steps they take in doing so.
Also, what are some beginner songs I could work on? |
Re: pickin up guitar again
That's my next instrument. I've been playing bass for 11 years, started drums a month ago and when that's down, I'm moving to guitar. I've had an electric and acoustic for years, I just like learning by playing along with music, not really doable with guitar. You actually have to sit down and learn some theory. Boring.

Re: pickin up guitar again
Check out Guitar, Guitar for the Practicing Musician, Acoustic Player, etc. They always have free tabs in there for songs. Pick some up with songs you like and start playing those songs. Great way to improve your playing and have some fun jamming to tunes you like.

You can try Chris Daughtry's Home Acoustic.

Re: pickin up guitar again
Check out youtube, there's tons of guitar lessons on there. Just type the song name and "lesson" and see what pops up.
I have a honeyburst '98 Les Paul Classic and a '92 Ultra Strat. I play both through an '06 Marshall JCM2000 Dual Super Lead and a full stack cabinet. The Strat has all the bells and whistles, but it doesn't really suit my playing style. The Les Paul...now that thing rocks! |
Re: pickin up guitar again
Put some EMG 81/85 pickups in the Les and you'll really be rockin'. I have them in my Gibson Gothic Les Paul and they sound awesome.

Re: pickin up guitar again
The factory installed 496R and 500T are not bad for stock pickups. The 496R has a bluesy sound and the 500T rips harmonics like crazy. With my stack turned up a little it has enough bottom end to knock down walls. :)
If I do a pickup swap it will be for some Wolftones. |
Re: pickin up guitar again
Hm I was just looking for some easy songs to start out with. I found a lesson online but I want to start learning some easier songs.

Re: pickin up guitar again
If you're ever in the Apple Valley area, you can stop by and jam with my band. We can show you some theory stuff too if you'd like.
Just search for tabs to songs you are familiar with, and build up from that by learning more and more technical stuff. |
Re: pickin up guitar again
