Anyone interested in their own barrels of race fuel? We mostly deal with VP Fuels at the shop. Their are a few types of fuel some of you might be interested in.
C16 117 motor octane leaded Designed for use in boosted and nitrous engines. What we normally run on our cars at the shop for high boost. VP Import 120+ motor octane leaded Crazy expensive Performance Unleaded (R+M)/2 rating of 100 octane Motorsport 103 (R+M)/2 rating of 103 unleaded 99 Motor octane Available in 54, 30, 15 and 5 gallon sizes. |
What would be the price of a 5 gallon barrel of C16?
And sorry about the noob question but what would be the downfall of using leaded on a DSM? Or is there none? |
I would imagine it would kill your catalytic converter(if you have one) and decrease the life and accuracy of any o2 sensors, other than that I'd think the effects would be minimal.
|
You can't use leaded fuel at all if you have a catalytic converter. The lead will slowly hurt your O2 sensor, but if your O2 sensor is in ok shape it should still last you a couple years with often summer weekend use of the leaded fuel. You might have to replace your O2 sensor every couple years if you use leaded a lot, but thats just a cost of racing. Fouling plugs is another small problem, but we usually bring some with to the track or dyno and put them in before even wasting a run on the leaded fuel.
The 5 gallon ones are probably going to be a bit too expensive to justify getting them. I need to find out the current pricing for the fuels this year, but it is cheaper in larger quantities. You can usually get 5 gallons from our drum at Elite cheaper than buying one that small for yourself. |
How much for a 30 gallon of c16?
|
I would like the price on both the 30 and 54 gallon of C16.

Leaded gas is very hard on some of those wideband O2 sensors. They probably won't last quite as long with heavy leaded gas use, but if you want to go fast then you get used to replacing parts like that and clutches and trannies.
I will try to get some prices on Monday. The prices have gone up over the last coupel years, but it's mostly been due to transportation costs due to rising diesel fuel prices. It costs a bit more to get C16 up here than it does in Texas. :) |
The bosch LSU4 sensors used to be under $40 each, but I don't know if they are still that low. I have 5 sitting here, so I am not too worried about it :P I think I went through 2 of them last year (on my 3rd one). I killed one in one night running that crap 100 octane from Old Colony (only time leaded was run in it).

I should have the new 2004 prices tomorrow. But if the price hasn't gone up much then it will probably be something like $432 for a 54 gallon C16, $259.50 for a 30 gallon, $138 for a 15 gallon, and $48 for a 5 gallon. We sold the C16 for $9 a gallon from our 54 gallon barrels last year, so some of the smaller sizes aren't any cheaper, but you get something to store it in. I think with the 54 and 30 gallon drums you get $10 back when you return an empty. I am not sure if they do anything for the 15 and 5 gallon cans.

C16 is expensive shit. It will support over 30psi. You can get away with something a bit cheaper if your running a safe tune and a lot less boost. VP Import is more than twice the cost of the C16. And then there is VP C44/C46 which is almost 4 times the cost of C16.

I guess my other post got deleted.
I might be interested in a barrel for the shop. I'll have to see how finances go. |
How about a $ on the 100 unleaded. I currently run leaded with no problems to the O2 or cat. But why press my luck if this can come close to the cost.

How would the shipping work? meaning is it all just going to be dropped off at Elite and then it's up to us to get it to our house's?
