7bolt head vs 6 bolt

The dillema...

whats the difference between 2g 7bolt head and 1g 6bolt head.
are they interchangable, other than the size of the holes for the head studs. one are thiner than the other.

i have a 6bolt bottom end sitting in the garage and am thinking of building it but am missing a head, and am currious if my 2g 7bolt head will fit on it, especialy since i already have cams in it.

If I recall that you have to drill the holes out on the 2g head a little. Don't quote me on that. But I think that is what you have to do. Some were on the web or among the DSM forums someone talked about this. It will line up its just the head stud holes have to be modified. I think.

7 bolt head studs are 11mm. 6 bolt head studs are 12mm.

Drill them, swap for a 1g head or have some body make you some studs that measure 12mm at the block and then tapper down to 11mm above the deck. Any guess on which one is the cheapest way to go?

answer:
where is that dremmel ...

Is there anything on the timing belt side that might not be compatible between the 2?

No.

A drill press would be much easier than a dremmel, and probably make less mess.

Re: 7bolt head vs 6 bolt

i was kidding when i said Dremmel.. the head is still assembled. I'll be just replacing bearings first on the 7bolt beat the crap out of it since compression is still 170..

the plan is to max out the 50 trim with e85 and see how it likes that.
after this season finishes if it still holds i'll keep it the same for next year too.
but i already have a 6bolt bottom end with pretty much everything that is needed for a 6bolt swap ready, except the internals.

Thank you for your help!
