Transmission blows on test drive.
So I was doing the girlfriend a favor yesterday helping her sell her 99 sebring lxi, and some 30-35 year old lady met me for a test drive I let her take it out I stood there had a smoke sat on the curb ect. She comes back less than 10 minutes later and said it stopped shifting and is slipping. WTF
I'm not blaming her for a second its a chrysler afterall and she is an older woman not an 18 year old kid beating on it. She still wants to buy it if the transmission can be fixed this week. So does anyone know of any 99 chrysler sebring or avenger tranny's laying around they are 4spd automatics for a 2.5 litre It cross references to 97-00 avenger and 97-00 sebring 41TE is the transmission code. F'N A this sucks so any help asap would be great. joe |

Aww man that sucks!! I will never go back to a Dodge A/T after my Intrepid trans went to pure shit.
I however did fix it for a while by "tricking" the tranny. I disconnected the battery for a little while and connected it back and it worked for a few weeks and then all hell broke loose and I parked it. Was it in "limp mode" where it go's into 3rd and stays there? |

and www.car-part.com has a few of them but they are all an hour away from me and half are untested with 160k miles on them. I found one about 30 minutes from here with 158k the pan was taken off an inspected and they say all is within spec for 350. Worst part is having the girl breathe down my neck about it "WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE" "IT WONT TAKE YOU MORE THAN AN HOUR RIGHT" "CAN'T I SELL IT THE WAY IT IS FOR THE SAME PRICE" I love her to death but quit bustin my balls |

Re: Transmission blows on test drive.
This may sound stupid, but have you checked the fluid level AND has the filter been changed recently? Both could cause the problems you described.

Re: Transmission blows on test drive.
New transmission is in it went ok for the most part kinda hard wrestling it into place by myself on the garage floor. I had it 90 percent in and the jack slipped out and the transmission hit the floor that happened twice. Had a jack slip out and hit the oil pan and it made a dent that is so small I thought nothing of it until I started the car and dunk dunk dunk dunk dunk.
This dent is smaller then a pea and probably dented the oil pan less than 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch and now its rubbing and hitting and making a god aweful noise looks like the exhaust and cross member and oil pan are coming out tomorrow Can't wait... its not happening today cause its my birthday damnit. |
