Help me decide on cams!

Okay, so I'm a cheap ass and I've found two sets of cams for $300. Which do you think are better for my setup?

2.3l,xxx .68 a/r, aem. I want to run to 8000 maybe 8500rpm regardless of what it does to engine life. It's my first motor and I don't expect 100,000 miles out of it.

The first set of cams are the Comp 101300s from rst95eclipse.

The second set are DKS 280s, which are equivalents of HKS 280s from Link forums.

Discuss.

I personally would do the 101300's over the DKS's.

Brian Crower cams will also be back in stock early next week. They offer 272's or 280s. With a 2.3L I would recommend something closer to the 280's. Reason being that as displacement goes up, the ability to run bigger cams goes up, therefore power goes up. Pricing is competitive with what you are looking at right now for the new BC's.

That's one thing I never got about the BC cams. Are the seriously only $305 for the SET brand freakin new?

And I've been hearing BCs are supposed to be in stock next week for the last three months haha.

[edit] BUT I just checked their website and it no longer says backorder so...

yes tom, they are only 305 a SET. Why do you think I got them? Only issue is that they FUCKED up my exhaust cam with an evo one, so now that the new one is in, they are sold to a friend of mine.

Yes, 305 a set.

Brian Crower has shipped the Cams! Distributors are just waiting to get them.

So you guys are just waiting on them? Screw used cams I'll be there when I hear they're at the shop.

What springs do you have?

Re: Help me decide on cams!

Yeah, stock springs and 280s will NOT work well. You can get away with stock springs and a 272ish sized cam if you need to though.

Cams alone won't turn a stroker motor into a high RPM power maker.

Cams + T25 will! ;)

Re: Help me decide on cams!

I was under the impression that HKS 280's could run stock springs as all they did was increase the duration like their other profiles. Anybody know for sure?

Re: Help me decide on cams!

What is the point of running 280's if the whole point of running them is to rev with them and make more power after the turbo is spooled?

I personally wouldn't recommend running them, as I think the 280's have a more aggressive ramp rate than the 272's. That and with a cam that size, you should be running aftermarket springs.

There's no point to use my tired ass stockers, I'm getting springs depending on the cams I get. If I need duals, I'll get duals. If I do go with BCs (probably), I'll just get their singles.

Yeah, I know. The AMS VSR IM, AMS head, and A1000/1600s will help with that also. Best girlfriend I've found! Ha

And I'm going to have DG balance my motor while it's getting the rest of the stuff put on.

You can run the HKS 280s on the Evos with their stock springs/retainers, if you don't increase the revlimiter over stock.

Cool. Those things should help out a lot with the lift on them.
