Anyone ever dealt with oldsmobile?

So I have a 1999 Olds Alero with the 2.4L v6. 138k miles, leather interior, was a great car...WAS.

In the past two months I've had to replace,
-Drivers side wheel bearing twice
-Drivers side brake rotor
-Drivers side CV joint
-Drivers side balljoint
-Transmission
-Power steering pump twice and lines once
-Water pump
-Serpentine belt
-Window motor.

I still ahve the follow problems,

-Blown bulb and fuse for turn signals
-Passenger side wheel bearings going
-Driver side door unlock relay
-Shifter (buttoned snapped off)

and thats about all right now, I'm furious with this fucking thing.

Re: Anyone ever dealt with oldsmobile?

WTF how have you even had enough time to drive it to break anything else with all the repairs you've been doing

Re: Anyone ever dealt with oldsmobile?

I personally haven't driven the car in over 2 years. It's my mothers daily driver and of course me being a mechanic I'm expected to fix it and keep it up to par, personally if i had a choice this car would of been gone a while ago.:VP2:

Get a alignment done. That front end could be way out of wack to make the Bearings go like that. Well thats what was wrong with my 85 LeBaron.

Re: Anyone ever dealt with oldsmobile?

I didn't even read your post. I assume you are bitching about everything thats wrong with a V6 3.4l Alero and rightfully so. BTW Grand Ams have the same issues.

1999 GLS 119,000 miles bought it with 19,000 miles on it

-Lower intake manifold gasket leaked coolant at 21,000miles
-3 wheel bearings
-Fucking hazard switch that ticks and goes nutz whenever it feels like it
-Blower motor resistor went out so fan controls were not working
-Water pump
-Alternator
-2 outer tie rods
-Cruise only works if I jam a dime into the switch to keep it on
-Car misfires when ever its driven through a puddle
-Brake rotors need to be replaced every other year
-Steering rack is going out, clunks if you turn wheel when not moving
-Window regulator sounds like its about to break and window will drop into door

Big piece of shit

In the cars defense it has never left my wife stranded, it always seems to get home, barely

My friend has the 99 Grand Am GT with the 3.4. Probably around 180k on the thing now. I think he had a water pump go out, and that's about it.

Thats the fucking problem haha, I want it to leave her stranded so I have an excuse to get rid of the dman thing, I swear it limps back so I have to wrench on it over night just to wrench on it again.

EDIT OH MAN, I forgot the blower motor resistor hahaha had to change that too in -6 degree weather. FUCK

Re: Anyone ever dealt with oldsmobile?

My mom has a 00 Alero and its been fairly good. Minor things here and there but nothing to bad. Strut towers knock like a bitch and its bumps like a brick would. Back when she first got it, Gas gauge said quarter tank. Damn thing ran out of gas going 70 on the highway. Since then not much has happened to it.

Side note: Just be glad you don't have the light flicker problem like I have on my Intrigue. That will piss a person off just by how annoying it is. Dealership doesn't have a clue. They say "Just deal with it".

Don't get me startted on the Grand Am's. But I will anyways....

Wifes 95 Grand AM GT 3.1 v6:

CEL light comes on after getting off the highway.
Both Swaybar links were missing.
Passanger side Rotor is warped.
The rear shocks could be going out.....
The Steering Rack does clunk kinda ....
Replaced both power steering lines
Both window regulaters were replaced....driver side is still not working right.

Think thats about it..... Any ideas on that CEL problem I am having?

HAhahA!

My friend has an Alero and she has managed to turn it into a 1 door. Yes 1 door, 3 of the doors (passenger, rear 2 have broken handles/locks) It's hilarious going with her and leaving because we've all got to Dukes of Hazzard it out. The little knobber on the stick (A/T) broke so she has to damn near stab her thumb and try to push a metal piece in. It sucks straight up, she's been told to drive it into the ground and get the money from the scrapyard. I would never buy one of these cars.

Drive It Into The Ground.

I agree... when I go to the NHRA events at Brainerd, my heart is with the domestic cars/brands all the way, but with every day street cars, the reliabilty with American cars has gone down the shitter. My friend works for a GM garage. His #1 thing is changing intake gaskets. My daily happens to be a '97 Grand AM GT. It needs a handful of parts to bring it back to par. Only has 88k miles.

Re: Anyone ever dealt with oldsmobile?

My buddy was a GM mechanic and he doesn't believe there is a 60 degree V6 from GM that didn't need a set of intake gaskets replaced.

Oh and I forgot, driver door lock doesn't work anymore.

And when you turn on the rear defrost the radio doesn't get reception anymore.

Re: Anyone ever dealt with oldsmobile?

So what are the signs for a bad Intake Gasket I may ask? I don't want to replace it if its not bad. Granted the Grand Am has over 165k miles on it.... And also the oil gauge fluctuates.... And the Check Oil light comes on. I do and its full...hot and cold. *sighs*

Yeah, my goodyear's meat-and-potatoes work is v6 american motors.

They killed oldsmobile off for a reason

Buy an import. Its pretty hard to go wrong.

Re: Anyone ever dealt with oldsmobile?

My drivers side door lock doesnt but the unlock does lol bad relay.

This is no joke, in a 1 month span at the shop I had a buick century that we had to change the intake gasket on, we changed that and a rocker collapse, after the rocker collpased a valved slapped the piston so hard it cracked it right downb the middle, and I did about 4 or 5 intake gaskets on GMs in the month period.

Have you read the CEL code to see what is turning it on?

Tryed that...but Autozone does not have a OBD1 connecter. But its a OBDII system. *sighs* GM switched over to OBDII in 95 but some cars still have the OBDI connecter. So no I can not jump the the wires to have the light blink! What a pain...thats why I am confused about it.

Symptoms are:

You have a 3100 or 3400 V6
Low coolant, some cars are equipped with a low coolant sensor
Car temp fluctuates or overheats
You can smell coolant at stoplights or after you get out of the car
Coolant leaks under car but not from radiator area

Best thing is to check the ends of the lower intake manifold with a flashlight to see if coolant has leaked and puddled up on the engine block. Mine was leaking on the side where the crossover exhaust pipe is located.
