Got a new car...hopefully it's reliable

Just got this about a week ago. 1998 Dodge Avenger ES, 2.5l v6, auto, black, power everything, infiniti sound system, leather interior, sunroof, alloy wheels, cold a/c, etc. Got it for 2k. :D

Only 100700 miles on it too.

Right now it's at the dealership cause we worked out a deal where they had to fix the exhaust and oil leak, whatever it may be. Turns out I'm getting new valve cover gaskets, a new oil pan, and a full exhaust. It's there for a couple days because the old o2 sensor wouldn't come out so they had to order a new one.

This will be my every day driver untill it's paid off. Then we'll see what I want to do with it. I have ideas, but still open to options.

Not a bad deal if it's in good shape. I was trying to buy almost the same car today with 81K miles on it and the other dealer wanted $5200 wholesale for it. Of course he's on crack.

My sister had one when they we brand new. She said she hated it. Too many problems. Mostly just cuz she went through like 5 batterys in like 1.5 years.

It is in pretty damn good shape for 2k, trust me. The interior's almost perfect, everything works well on it. The body has a few dings and scrapes. But it looks real good from a few feet away.

And yes, he's on crack 100%. Maybe 3-3500.

This was a Chrysler Sebring Lxi, dealer book is actually $3200. You got a better than average deal.

When I was looking at buying it after the test drive, I looked up the book value on mine even in poor condition was around 3000. I got one hell of a deal.

It still feels like a brand new car too.

EDIT: That 2k includes tax, title transfer, etc, along with the oil leak and exhaust leak fix. I told em when I was negotiating that I don't want another car that leaks anything...I already have one of those. lol

i used to have one, just make sure you change the timing belt on it and you will be fine. for another 60k. don't beat on the trany too much either, give it fresh oil and don't get it over heated and it will be fine for many trouble free miles.

oh and on a nother note, never close the door by pushing on the window, if you do after a short while it will leak by the side mirror and door seal.

There should be still a white avenger driving around with GTR sticker in the back... wave to it if you see it ;p

Buddy of mine has an avenger es. Actually, he's on his second and not by choice. His lost the tranny in the first one and now he's got his second. He's got the classic, broken door handle and some compression problems as well. Hopefully yours works out better than my buddies. Just remember, whatever your "plans" may be, that when you mod a car, you are trading some of those reliable points for speedy points. (most of the time)

I've read a lot of bad things about the trannies. I just take it easy on it when I drive it.

And as for the leaking around the door, the driver's side mirror leaks a bit just like you said.

Cleaned up the headlights real good. About 10 mins of wet sanding and buffing with some buffing compound did the trick.

At Goodyear, we make alot of money servicing cars like these, if it was the i4 w/5speed you would have a good car.

Dont expect it to last the long haul, drive it for a year or so and trade it for something reliable and fuel efficent.

I got a 89 camry for almost free, costs nothing to maintain, put 50k on it in the past 4 years, it drove my brother to florida in the spring.

Pros: more fuel efficent then your car, and it will last forever, where your car wont.
Cons: Ugly, 1989

not dissing you, just seriously trade it when you can afford something better

If it lasts at least untill the loan is paid off in a year and a half, I'll be happy.

I'm babying this thing. Not an easy task to do after driving my Laser daily.

But thanks for the heads-up.
