wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
So I was drivin north on hemlock today and a pretty sweet newer 3000gt vr4 came up next to me at a light. We did the "hey nice car" exchance and talked briefly at the next few lights. He had some nice lookin mitsu 5 spokes and the ugly (imo) ricer version wing on the back. He gunned it a few times and the stupid thing just lurched back and took off. It made me and my laggy 50 trim just tear up a little. Aw it made me wish I woulda baught a 3s vr4 instead of the 2g gsx. I know I'm not supposed to say that, but that fool was runin 13psi on stock turbos!

Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
they can make pretty decent power, even on the stock turbos. How much power is your 50-trim putting down? I'm sure it would have been a close race...

Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
I'm making a sad 265awhp. I just hate having to come from behind EVERY time.

Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
You woulda raped him. I despise those cars. :-)

Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
3's on stock turbos at 8psi equal 1 16g. That's why, when they upgrade to 16g's, they make 60x whp!

Stock turbo 3s's usually put down about that, with more power under the curve than your 50. I've gotten used to working on them, so they're not bad for me. But they're still das boat's of a car

Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
I like 3/S's, they are like grown up DSM's.
Are you sure it was a ricer wing and not a '99 wing? http://www.autoworld.com/news/Mitsubishi/3000GT-VR4.jpg |
Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
I usually wish the same thing, but the key to DSMs is that they are cheap. SO as long as I remember that i stay happy. - Aaron

A BPU 3/S will put down around 250 to 270AWHP on the LSE dyno. So your numbers are in that range. But obviously the 3/S was spooling faster, so it got into the power range quicker.
The nice thing about a 3/S, is you can get to BPU pretty easy, and its very reliable horsepower. But it gets expensive after that. So if you want a sexy, reliable, Mitsu that can run 12.9s all day in the 1/4 mile, then a 3/S is a good way to go. If you want an inexpensive Mitsu that has poentential for 11s and you are willing to do it cheaply but be ready to turn a wrench. Well, then a DSM is a better fit. I'm an oddball because I rely on a DSM to be my reliable, daily driver, with very few mods. My 3/S is the one I take to the track and I'm ready to watch it break. later, Curt |

Curt you definatly have some clean dsms and 3/s's. |
Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
If you are launching from a dig, then you shouldn't have to worry about turbo spool and if you are from a roll there shouldn't be much either, unless you are in the wrong gear. With the weight difference you should have beat him pretty easily.
3S's are nice cars and can be made pretty quick, but DSM's are cheap powa. Both have their good and bad points. |
Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
50 trim DSM isn't for you then my good man, you probably wanted to stay with a 16G, preferably EVO3 style.
Thats teh other part of the story is weight, DSMs have a little less. I ran a 12.9 on my B16G, DSMlink car, my bro went 12.7 with it. So we figured the thing has a 12.6 in it. Granted not as cushy as a 3/S. But done cheaply on a junk motor with all used parts apart from the link. |
Re: wish i had a 3kvr4 :(
well you could just go 2.4 and then have 16G spool....... I almost want a bigger turbo now. What is the a/r? I had a .48 on on the 2.0 it wasnt bad
