Windows 2000 OS
OK, i have this sweet laptop that was built for windows 2000 professional it says on the sweet sticker. But it has XP loaded onto it, would it run better with 2000 on it, it is used for internet, car software, and microsoft office and that is it.
Tips, tricks, anyone? Thanks in advance Aaron |
Re: Windows 2000 OS
What are the hardware specs on it? I'm sure it runs about the same w/XP as it would with win2k.

Re: Windows 2000 OS
700mhz intel 3
256mb ram 12gb hard drive. i think that it what you wanted. |
Re: Windows 2000 OS
You can run XP on that. A year a ago we still had some 766 machines running XP used at the teller stations at my bank. We since upgraded to 3.0G. You should bump that memory up to at least 512meg. There is probably 2 memory slots in that laptop. Sometimes both slots aren't always side by side. I've come across laptops where one slot is easily accessable at the bottom and the other slot is on the motherboard which is a pain in the ass to get at. Check ebay for memory.
That hard drive is small. How much HD space is free space, 5 or 6 gig? |
Re: Windows 2000 OS
Yeah that system should be ok for XP. The differences between the 2 OS' were fairly minor as far as system requirements. 2000 would obviously run a bit quicker on it but it wouldn't be worth the downgrade.

Re: Windows 2000 OS
i have 8.9GB free space out of 11.2gb available.
THanks for the help guys, much appreciated. |
Re: Windows 2000 OS
With nearly 9GB available of free you should be fine. I just wanted to see how much you had free to make sure there was enough for the pagefile space.

Re: Windows 2000 OS
I would look into upgrading to more RAM. It'll make using your computer more enjoyable.
