Riding lawnmowers-best invention ever!
 

So, I woke up today, to mow the lawn. Our pusher has had 5 good years of service, and she still runs, but spits and sputters and dies often. I won't go into details on that thing, as that's not what this is about. My mother came up with the bright idea of getting a rider, and suprisingly, it happened. I went to lowe's, picked out what I liked, we got it, loaded it into their truck to get it home, and that was that. There was a cupon for 10% off on everything, EXCEPT john deer stuff. So, thay atleast tried to give us 10% on the truck rental. Well, somehow 10% on a $19.99 rental turned into giving us a credit of $187.96! So, looks like we got the discount anyway!

Getting it home, off the truck, etc. I put gas in it, fired it right up. Takes some time to get used to it, but wow, it's actually hauling ass! There are ruts on my lawn from burnouts (grounds wet) and in 5th gear, it scoots! What usually took me about 2 hours to mow, cut down to 45 mins, and that was me learning how to mow on this thing in 3rd gear. Next time, i'll bump it up a gear or two, and haul ass. I'm actually excited to mow!! It's got cruise control, 5 gears, 18.5 hp, cup holder, cell p\hone holder (actually has a pic of a cell phone) and a few other goodies. Anyone else just get into the riding technology lately? I feel soo outta date, but wow, it's fun!

Sounds like a nice machine. I used to mow a friend of the families yard with a brand new Toro Wheelhorse. That thing with the hydrostatic drive was awesome. Hauled ass and could pull a shit load too.

Nothing like getting sunburned on a rider while drinking a budweiser.:beer:

Want to haul ass cutting that yard!!!! I have a Husquverna 25hp briggs & stration Zero-turn mower with a 62 inch cutting deck "the ancor taker", mows and cutts sweet at 18mph just like a golf course with the stripes and all. Its nice to haul ass while you cut.

I drove an old john deer 100 hydrostatic mower when I lived in SD. That thing worked like a charm, but never started in the winter due to a mostly dead battery, which we never replaced. Just maintain it, change the oil regularly like you would a car and it'll work great for at least 20 years.

Well i'm glad to see the little things still make you happy in life. And it will be nice not having to bust your ass every week to mow, just sit back and listen to the iPod.

I had a rider and it was too big for our old lawn. With all the turning around to hit small spots, it took me as long as with a push mower. I sold it and bought a nice Toro RWD self-propelled. Still works great, although I've got a bigger yard now and a rider would probably work pretty nice here.

Thats awesome! I'm going to end up buying one once my dad takes his back! They are move into their new house soon! I have 2.5 acres to mow. It takes me a little over 3 hours to mow with the rider! I doubt I'll even consider buying a push mower lol!!! Riders rock! Mine does wheelies in 6th! lol :)

Lill Dixie out of Hunstville Alabama. Claim to have the fastest zero-turn cutting at 55mph with the pto ingaged 68 without with a 30hp Briggs with some sort of turbo charger, looks goofy big ass motor on the back with 80lbs of weight on the front to keep her from pulling straight wheelies. I'll try to find the link they got a video clip of this monster in action.

I've seen lawn tractor racing on Speed Channel before. Its pretty funny. I just have a 17hp, 42 inch cutting deck on my tractor.

But, to be honest, I'd much rather have one of these:

Mitsu tractors are kind of hard to find in the US. Plus they have diesel engines and are not quite as practical to use for just lawn mowing duty. But I still want one.

With all due respect to those in this thread, I am continually amazed at why people purchase riding lawn mowers from stores like Lowes, Home Depot, etc. The mowers which end up at those stores are cheapened up versions of what the traditional lawn and garden stores carry. Plus, where do you go for service? There is a reason why you don't see Snapper lawn mowers at chain stores.

On another note, if you want to make your hydrostatic-drive lawn mower go faster without adjusting the engine governor, shim the spring on the relief valve. :D
