Lately I've been noticing that more and more groups are coming out with their version of a high performance DSM intake manifold. What is going to end up separating these in terms what people choose to purchase? Sure HP, but what else, top end power, low end power, streetability, ease of installation, cost, ...................??
(NOTE: In no way am bashing any of the manifold manufacturers) These are all I've found, so for the choices so far you've got..... -The Dejon Tool TEL Intake Manifold http://dejontool.com/images/DSM-Inta...Bend_small.jpg -The drtRacing Intake Manifold http://www.drtracing.com/images/dsm/dsm_manifold.jpg -The Magnus Motorsports Intake Manifold http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/ima...cts/intake.jpg -The Forrester Racing Heads Intake Manifold http://www.forresterracingheads.com/image/3.gif -The Ross Machine Racing Intake Manifold http://www.rossmachineracing.com/4g63/4g635.jpg -The Venom Performance Intake Manifold http://www.diamondstarmotorsport.com...venomfront.jpg -The BJ's Cylinder Head Intake Manifold http://www.bjscylinderhead.com/image...ucts/Evo1b.jpg -The Buschur Racing Intake Manifold http://www.turbotrix.com/images/manifold_sheetmetal.jpg -The VRP Intake Manifold http://www.turbotrix.com/images/vp_intake.jpg -The Quick Precision Racing Intake Manifold which I have not seen any pictures of -Then there's silverbulletAWD on Tuners that has the following to say in this thread: Quote:
....Just thought it would be a good topic to start some discussion about.... :bounce: |
There is also the ADFX intake manifold. But either way, they all have the same purpose and they all work. Just get whatever one and stick with it.

are there major differences between manifolds, more cfm in certain models, some look like they have bigger individ val intake tubes, is it worth getting venom, or bushur because they are names i would trust and paying for the name, I look for what will make my car fast and i like to see who uses it and what they are running. my .02

Forrester (FRH), Magnus and BJ's have the best rep. Venom is good for a 2.4l (loses some midrange on a 2.0).

Who has personal experiences with any of these manifolds?

I have an ancient style Magnus, it worked good. The Venoms are known to blow out welded above 24psi. Any of them should have a decent impact on top end power. Then plenum volume on the stock intake manifolds are just too small, so adding more volume and short runners help alot in the 7000-9000+ RPM range. The drawback is that with a large plenum the car will feel a bit doggy off boost, which really doesn't show up on a dyno test much either.
The Buschur and VRP designs are pretty much the most basic, they just took a 4" piece of tubing and welded some runners and flanges on to it. Brent Rau runs a similar one to those that he made himself for his drag car. The ADFX looks like a knock off of the Veilside intake manny for the Supra MKIV. There have been 2 versions of the Venom, the old one was a huge retangular box, the newer one is more of a rounded tube. There have been 200 or so versions of the Magnus. Most require some amount of custom upper I/C pipe work. Judging by the picture, it looks like the Dejon Tool one has his patented 1/16" thick anti-seal flange for the head. |
