Installing Engine & Tranny questions
I'm just a matter of days before I will be putting everything in the car. I assembled the head today. When I yanked the motor out, it was just the shortblock, no head & no tranny attached to it so it was easy to find places to hook up the chain. Now when I put it in this week I want to do it as a whole, complete motor & tranny all in at the same time. Can someone please tell me what is safe to attach each side of the chain to that won't snap a bolt and place my newly built motor on the floor.
Thanks. |

Re: Installing Engine & Tranny questions
The engine leveler is pretty much mandatory for putting in the whole shebang since you need to tip it tranny down to get it in from the top. I commonly use the thicker bolt the intake bolts to right by the EGR hole. The other I temporarily use the factory plate on the exhaust manifold by the PS pump.

Re: Installing Engine & Tranny questions
Thanks to all of you. Steve, I know what plate you're referring to. Off the top of my head, I believe 2 or 3 exhaust mani studs go thru it and one bolt goes thru it and into the PS pump. There are 4 chain ends, i'll figure out where to attach the front passenger side chain. I plan on doing this Saturday sometime. The leveler is supposed to be here on Thursday.
Thanks again. |
Re: Installing Engine & Tranny questions
The leveler makes it easy. You can almost put the engine and tranny in place perfectly without much hassle. Just bolt up the mounts and you're set.
