Unsolvable problem
I bought a 90 tsi last year and started buying parts. I bought a used longblock with 100k on it a bout a used 20g and rebuit it, I bought pte 720cc injectors also used,I also have a walb 255 and a B&M fpr(43 psi). I'm using a stock mas,ngk plug wires and plugs gapped to 28.
I had it running(idling) for awhile but it wouldnt drive, so i bought an Safc figuring it was tuning, I put the low settings to -35% all the way up and it pretty much ran the same. idling good but when I drive it as soon as the clutch was out it would bogg and shake bad, i thought the may be because its a 90 with a 91 ecu, swapped it to a 91 eprom(dont really know why) but it ran and drove, it didnt like boost when we hit it so i didnt do it, i brought it home a praked it for the night. I go back to my car the next day and soder the safc connections and all it could do was turn over. Took out the plugs checked for spark no spark so i swapped the coil pack and still no spark realized some how the transistor pack came unplugged so i plugged it back in and tryed starting the car. it turned over and seemed like it wanted to start and we checked for spark and all4 where sparking. but still all it does is turn over I dont get whats going on I'm getting air fuel, and spark but it wont start and I know the motors good because i drove the car it came out of the day before it came out. Please help |
Re: Unsolvable problem
those injectors are probably too big for an afc. The B&M pressure regulator is also probably being over run which can't help your fuel problem.

Re: Unsolvable problem
Id say toss some stock injectors at it and see if that works.

Re: Unsolvable problem
Yea I suggested that to my buddy and we might try it tomorrow, if it is the injectors why was it running before and now wont even start?

Re: Unsolvable problem
Pull your plugs and see if they're all sooty black. It looks and sounds like you have way too much injector to compensate for with a SAFC. I just had the exact same symptoms putting in 1600's. It would idle but fall on it's face with any boost. Each time I took out 10% from the fuel tables it would run a little better until it just flies. A wideband makes easy work of this stuff, but you can still oldskool it by reading the plugs.

Re: Unsolvable problem
You probably fouled out the plugs.

Re: Unsolvable problem
make sure the ECU capacitors havn't burst open, check cam timing, make sure the injectors in your car are actually for a DSM (since you said you bought them used). That's all I got right now. Plus everything steve said ^^^

Re: Unsolvable problem
I have a wideband thats not hooked up yet but my car dosnt start any more so I'm procrastinating on putting it in, and my spark plugs where getting soaked with gas so i took them out and lit them on fire so their black regardless. we took all 4 plugs out and tested for spark and they all sparked so doesn't that mean their good?

Re: Unsolvable problem
Clean them off with a wire brush so you can read them after running it for a bit. To get it started, try turning your base fuel pressure down to 35psi so you're not running so rich, then read the plugs.

I've hooked up 4 differnt ECUs, I'm pretty sure the cam timing is on since it was fine on the last car the head was on and it hasn't been taken apart, and yea the injectors came out of a dsm. |

Re: Unsolvable problem
Well I got the car running by putting in some stock 450cc injectors and zeroing out the settings on the safc, but now it idles really high(like 2800-3200 rpms high) and I thought that maybe the timing was off even though it was timed like 2 weeks ago so I did it again, and it still idles high. I was taking some fuel away with the safc but it didnt do anything. Anyone got any ideas as to why its idling so high.

Re: Unsolvable problem
Idle screw, throtle cable to tight, bad idle stepper motor.

Re: Unsolvable problem
yeah i would say idle screw, if not, check for boost leaks. (if you are getting idle surge) mine does that when i have a vac line disconnected of a boost leak.
