eBay SSAutochrome Manifold

9 Attachment(s)
So I did the dirty deed, I bought an eBay stainless steel tubular manifold for my GVR4 for $100 shipped. I plan on HEAVILY reinforcing it before I install it, I am ok with pulling it off and re-welding it, I understand that I may eventually end up with more weld then pipe....too late to return it.

I spend alot of time on the couch caressing a DNP manifold for a month or so before actually installing it on Mug's project car.

the manifold I have now is shitty, just plain shitty, the t3 flange needs to be milled flat, it looks like a cave man made this POS.

-BUT- if it works, then cool.

(the first pic is a NIB fidenza flywheel I got off tunerz for $120 shipped, I am much happier with this deal)

Well as long as you know that it needs to be braced, and is probably going to be re-welded multiple times, then hooray!

The flange will falten out when bolted to the exhaust housing, they might break though from stess, re-welded as cracks form.

Yep, *IF* the flange will flatten out when bolted up, it will have stress in it and more than likely break the weld later on. They could spend another $50 and make those decent manifolds. Trying to fix them after it is made is much more difficult though.

I would get some 3/8" stainless rod and put a few braces on there, one on each end, from flange to flange, then a few others in there. I would then have it heated and cooled a few times (to 1200* F), then have the flanges ground flat. That will be your best chance without redoing all of their welds too. The thin tubes are a big part of the problem too, and there is not fix for that.

Too thin of material, not enough heat, and not enough fill rod= :(

There's always a reason why it only cost $100.

Glad I bought the new FP cast mani. You could hang a bus off the end of it.

If you're gonna be doing some heaving welding on that, you may want to make a plate to clamp or bolt that flange too. It will help transfer the heat and less likely to warp welding on it.

Why didnt you spend another $200 for an OBX Ebay one. At least those last more than a day.

Doesn't Chris have pictures of his that he bought before heading out to the Shootout like three years ago?

Seem to remember it was welded once right after he got it, then the wastegate mount fell off on the way home, and then the whole collector fell apart and was held on by hoseclamps just to get home.

Of all the rigged things you've done Alex this has got to be one of the jehnkiest.

lol. Rippin' on alex FTW!! Saw the manifold the other day, looks like a tubular mani..nothing special. Who wants to take bets on how long it will last?
