my *rant*
So I picked up a 1991 FWD Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-turbo with a what I thought at the time was told to have a bad head (low compression in #2) for $650. I figure for $650 I could just drop in a spare head I had laying around and get a fun winter car out of it. But that shortly back fired on me.
After taking the timing belt cover off I noticed a snapped belt was just chilling there. It turned out to be the balance shaft belt :S. I'm thinking oh man it's probably got bent valves and such now but shortly after taking the head off and inspecting it the valves were fine. To my surprise the real issue was the #2 piston. Its now missing a small chunk out of the piston. So now I'm stuck in a dilemma on what I want to do with the car. Replace the #2 piston or have them all replaced and get it running and sell it or just keep it. Man what's a guy to do, stupid DSMs. Can never have it easy with them :S lol. Ah yes besides this I still have to install a new clutch into my '99 eclipse spyder gs-t :S. |
Re: my *rant*
clean body at least..

Re: my *rant*
I told you so. Man, that really sucks. Should've fixed and worry about car #1 before buying car #2. Oh well, it's not like you got any other more important things to worry about anyways right? Have fun with the car.

Re: my *rant*
Just grab an old piston off someone, re-ring it, and let er buck.

Re: my *rant*
I have 3 used pistons out of my 96 7 bolt.... if you want one let me know.... how about $5 plus shipping
|
Re: my *rant*
oh and I also have the 2g rods that you can have if you want
|
Re: my *rant*
2g pistons are a different compression. I have some 1g ones sitting around here. It looks like there are marks on the pistons from the exhaust valves, if those are new then your valves are bent, maybe not much to the naked eye, but they are. How did the #2 piston get like that?

Re: my *rant*
I will look closer at the valves in the next few days when I get the chance to. But I'm not sure how the piston got like that JET. I was told it had low compression in #2 and thats it. I did find the balance shaft belt was snapped upon removing the lower timing cover.
If it turns out the valves are bent, does anyone have any I could possibly get for cheap? That and maybe some pistons thanks. |
Re: my *rant*
What you could do is give me one of those center lug nut covers on the wheel. :-D

Re: my *rant*
If you want I can sell you all 4 rims w/ tires :D. I have set of 2g GSX rims w/ tires I was debating about to replace with those :)

Re: my *rant*
I've had Red Rooster fix my heads in the past, and I've always been very happy with their service. It's not exactly cheap though. If you have bent valves, I'd see if any of the shops on here have some stock used valves laying around they'd let you have for cheap. That might save you a little bit. And since it sounds like this is just a little winter car you're gunna beat around in, like I said earlier you could get away with just grabbing up someones used 1g piston and go buy new rings and just throw it in and it'd more then likely run.

Re: my *rant*
yeah, just replace the piston and rings if your going to use it as a beater.

Re: my *rant*
Hell, I've got a 6-bolt head that is complete and I have 4 spare pistons out of a 6-bolt. If you want to buy them let me know. The head comes complete with intake manifold, cams, cam gears and valves. Ready to bolt on.

Re: my *rant*
I agree with the dropping a cheap 1g piston in there and some used valves. Maybe just #2 exhuast valves is bent. And you don't need to rebuild the head to much.
