*Vent*
I'm sick of my car. I dropped 2k on a motor rebuild and it runs like shit, the exhaust cost me 400 dollars and it's an inch off the ground (Was going to get it fixed, but jake never called me...wtf?), I think I fried the ECU while adjusting the BISS screw, I see oil around the headgasket. This is my only car, I'm almost out of highschool...
I want to sell it but I know I won't even get 2500 out of the piece of shit. Right now I'm thinkin about taking insurance off it, buying a cheap ass beater and let the stupid thing sit untill I feel like ripping it all apart and going through the whole car. |

Re: *Vent*
Welcome to DSM's, sorry for your troubles.

Re: *Vent*
How much research did you do before tearing the car apart in the first place? The big thing with these cars is doing tons of research before you work on it, or else shit like this happens. Same thing happened with my timing belt. I fucked up and didnt ask anyone if the 6 bolt block and 7 bolt block had different ways of tensioning the belt. Well they do, the 6 bolt is bass ackwards (or the 7 bolt is) but the point is, i assumed it was the same, now i have 4 bent valves and a new head on the way. You cant assume anything with these cars.
Best of luck dude, but as long as you learn from your mistakes you will make it. just stick it out. |
Re: *Vent*
That sucks! Reminds me why I got out of dsms. haha

Re: *Vent*
How can you fry the ECU by adjusting the BISS screw?

What year is your car?

Re: *Vent*
Jake said he'd fix your exhaust so you don't need to vent about that. I don't know if you knew this but dsms are not the most reliable cars. It is normal that you need to "vent" every once in a while. Trust me everybody does it, they just don't post it on the forum. Shit I've wanted to sell my car like 413645 times but I don't because I could never get back the money or time I put into it. I told you right off the bat to sell your car and save yourself the money and stress. Go buy a civic
p.s. if this sounds really mean or like I'm attacking you, I'm not. Since this is the internet and you can't really see how somebody is saying something, just don't take any offense thanks! |
Re: *Vent*
DMS's aren't unreliable, it is that most of the people take shortcuts and don't do things the way they should be done. Do it right and they are a reliable car.

Re: *Vent*
Well if oil is showing up around the head then thats an easy fix. As for grounding two wires to adjust the BISS screw...when did that happen? All I did was take a screw driver and turned it until my idle was around 800rpms. Unless this is a new way of doing it? but anyways keep that head up high and fix it again. Sounds like you just have a small problem.

A. It was a N/T 90 Laser with a 4g63t swapped in. B. A redneck owned it. Almost like a restoration, in a way. Just not going to do the body. I'll have to talk it over with my parents if I can use their garage. |
Re: *Vent*
The ECU caps have nothing to do with the BISS screw. I would say you might have trashed the O-ring on the BISS screw when you adjusted it.

Re: *Vent*
It would suck in unmetered air and actually run lean and possibly die. Do you know for sure it is running rich? I would do a boost leak test, the BISS screw would show up on that if it is bad.

With the way it's running I don't want to risk driving it anywhere. Another issue I have is that I can't find my data logger for the life of me. |
Re: *Vent*
Just start taking out loans.
I bought my DSM with a trashed tranny, drove it until it grenaded, went to Wells Fargo, took out another loan on top of my existing car loan. Only went up 30 some bucks I pay $136.21/mo. for my $4k loan. So, take out $4k, send some money to Shep or TRE, send the other half to Steve Hill (SGH Enterprises) or whoever gives you a chubby on building engines, throw it in the turd and drive it. Just don't half-ass shit and you'll be running like a reliable car. Or go out and buy a car/truck with an Industrial engine for reliability. I've wanted to sell my car many times, but damn, thinking about how bad I could whoop on some v8's keeps me smiling and the title in my hand. Good things come to those who wait. Or go buy a honda 1.5L and a fart cannon and throw in some asian font seat covers. |
