Bronze or OEM cast guides on a rebuild?
Hi all-
I got my new stainless steel valves yesterday. It turns out that there is too much play in the guides. They will need to be replaced according to my engine shop this morning. He told me that he will put in whatever guides that I supply him with but he recommended going with the stock cast guides. According to him, the stock ones stay more consistant throughout the heat range or something. What do you engine builders recommend, stock or OEM cast guides? Thanks. |
Re: Bronze or OEM cast guides on a rebuild?
Hey what happened to all the engine builders on this forum? We must be down to about 2 builders that usually help out... Anyway, I went with the Mag-bronze guides.

If we install SS valves we install bronze guides, but if the stock valves remain then oem would be the way to go.

Hi John, I really appreciate your input on this. Yesterday my SS valves arrived. I got them from engnbldr on ebay. Absolutely cannot beat the price. Very nice valves that are even swirl polished nicely. Even many of the high hp guys on the dsmlink forum recommended them highly. I did order the bronze a little earlier.

Yes, those are the exact valves guides that I ordered. Engnbldr on ebay was who I bought the valves from also. Last year i put his lash adjusters in. I also put crower springs/Ti retainers in. Basically this head has costed me alot of money lately.
** Dam, this was supposed to be just a re-ring job with the engine in the car. So much for that. Now i'm over a grand$ into it and motor is still in pieces :( I plan on saving alot of time by assembling most of it on the engine stand and also bolting the tranny to the block and dropping it in as 1 unit. Thanks for the input guys... |
