Tsi wont start

just finished putting back together a 90 tsi awd now it wont start.

seems to be getting plenty of fuel almost to the point where it might be flooded if that is possible on a fuel injected car. spark is good, all the plugs are in the right wires etc.

The one thing we could not figure out how to adjust is the cam position sensor, anyone have any pointers. from what i have read this is what retards timing so if this was not adjusted properly would it make it not run?

any help would be awesome.

The cam position sensor is held in place by 2 bolts, loosen the two bolts and you can adjust it. It is located on the passenger side of the valve cover.

Yup, just loosten, adjust, then tighten up the bolts. 80% of them out there, when adjusted properly, will leave a nice half-moon shape on the top side of the adjustment area like so:

Hrm, I thought I had a pic of it somewhere, but do not.....

Does the car turn over?

yeah it turns, and when on the first rotation or so it sounds like it wants to start but after that nothing, I tried moving the cps in little 1/4 inch increments but nothing helped. I would assume the adjustment of this is pretty important.

Do you by chance have a service manual. If not you might want to invest 20 dollars and buy one. It is like having a manula boost without a boost guage.

yeah i have a chilton that ive read through about 20 times, cant find anything that talks about adjusting it, just says where to bolt it to, kinda lame book as it did not tell the spark plug gaps either.

You need a timing light to do that properly. Make sure you ground the plug on the harness along the firewall too. Should be at 5 degrees grounded I think? And then go to 8 when ungrounded.

I would make sure the MAF is plugged in, do a boost leak test, make sure there is gas in the car, if it is flooded pull the MPI fuse and crank the engine over.

What does it sound like when you turn it over, does it sound normal or like a goat get raped? Make sure all your wires are on properly, and maybe even replace them, also did you check to see if you have a clogged injector?

Compression, fuel, and spark. You'll need those three things to start your motor. You should check for spark first. I have Mitsu service manual. call me at 763-732-2256.

Check your coolant temp sensor and make sure the two wires aren't damaged.

^^^ Where exactly is this located on the motor? I might be having the same issue. I have spark, fuel, but motor rotates slow. However, the battery is fully charged. The car ran last week and a few days later when I went to start it, it won't start. Weird things is that if the key is turned on in the ignition, you can hear a clicking sound coming from the throttle body.

This was a big part of the problem surprisingly, I dont know why a temp sensor would do it but after it was fixed it ran better. then we picked up some 450s and it ran like the champ its suppoded to be until the timing belt skipped a tooth. damn things. Thanks for the help tho.

Anyone know what this is? My buddy is having a similar issue on his 1g... He is lost on it and I dont have time to help him right now. Plus, the car I am looking at buying has a similar issue as well. Any help would be appreciated.
