2g Manual Steering Rack

I'm looking for a 2g manual steering rack. It's been an urban myth and I'd just like to see if it is an option or not, since there is very little information about it and the info that is out there seems sketchy. They might have been equipped in the Base Model's made from 1995 until 1996.5, then discontinued. The Base Model was in production for those listed years and had fewer options than an RS. If not, how much for a 1g manual rack? Thank you Nick.

Funny. I gave all the specs to a junkyard for a possible 2g manual rack and I was informed that they have one. It's probably the 1g. Thanks Nick.

I've never heard of a factory 2G one.

You can just remove all the Power Steering accessories, and loop the lines on the rack, with a reservoir and breather Tee'd into the loop, and it will fell very similar to manual steering, and get rid of pretty much all your power steering components. This is what I'm doing to my Colt. There's a write up on Honda-Tech somewhere with pictures I think.

But the manual racks are geared different to make the turning easier.

Aggressive driving will suffer though.

With the 1G manual rack your steering will not be as tight. (more turns lock to lock) It is more of a dragracing mod than a roadracing mod.

If you pick up a manual rack make sure you pick up the rack mounts with it as one side (can't remember which) is different than the power rack mounts.

I got my car from a dude in Fargo who got it from erm......uh.....hm....Some guy who now runs StraightLine Detailing (..Smith) and it came without PowerSteering, I've always wondered if it had a manual rack, it turns and doesnt fall apart so I'm assuming it is one. However, how would I go about checking to confirm this?

James Smith maybe or James Or Smith...Works at SLS, my car has a bunch of SLS stuffszorz on it. KEVIN SMITH YEAH THATS IT! Knew it started with an S though, jeesh I was way off!

Re: 2g Manual Steering Rack

The manual racks aren't much different in ratio from the power. I barely noticed any difference if at all. It's definitely harder to turn at slower speeds though. If it's a street or drag car, no problem. If you actually want to turn fast in parking lots or something, it's not the way to go. I'm going to try a roadcourse with it this year, those long corners at high speed shouldn't be any problem.

And for the brackets to mount it, I just cut a 1/4" out of mine and welded it back together, it's held for 4-5 years this way.

Steve, are you talking about your 1g or 2g? I have a 2g and was thinking about fiddling with the 1g rack. Don't know if it's been done before. If someone knows, please push me in that direction. If not, I'll go with Brandon's POV.
