Wideband sensor location
 

I installed my wideband 1 week ago. I had Jet weld the bung for me. He mentioned that where I put it may be too far downstream then what I'd typically want. I just want to see the general concensus on here. Mine is the PLX M300, and I located the sensor just after the flex section because PLX reccomended it to be a minnimum of 24" back in the exhaust, but before the cat. I chose that location because it would be before the cat if the car had one, it's over 24" away, and it's a convenient spot of the wiring because it's pretty just slightly forward of the firewall. Everything appears to be working fine, but I just want to see where everyone else is locating there's, and what may I run into with it located where I have it. I'm not putting it in the stock location because I feel that is a bit too close to the turbo. If I do move it, I may move it to just after the DP bend.

Thats where I just put mine. most Of the 2g dsmlinkers use the rear o2 location without problems. I would think its fine as long as theres no exhaust leaks

I have found that I have a little exhaust leak at the manifold/turbo flange. I have the gasket in there, and all 4 bolts cranked on. Can't get rid of the leak, I may need a new gasket. But it's a fairly small leak, but you can feel it on your hand if you put it up right next to the flange. Other then that, I should be leak free. Think that'll screw it up much?

I thought you just put it in the stock location on the O2 housing. shit. Ok so do we have to leave the stock ones in? or can they be replaced? On my current exhaust i have two bungs, im not sure what the Apexi N1 has, Anyone know?

I run mine about 12" from the turbo outlet. When I got mine I was recommended 12 - 15" from the turbo. You will know if you have a problem if you stop getting readings from the WB02, then it is turning on the heating element to get warmed up again. It you get times where the reading stops for 10 - 15 seconds, then comes on again, that is your problem. The readings should still be accurate though.

I'm interested in someone answering this as well! From pictures/reading I think you need your stock one in and then weld in a bung down low and have the "sensor" in that one as well at the same time? Does it just read all the time or do you have to take it out, plug it with a plug. Reverse to use.

I would fallow the install guide with different wideband units. The place you put it should be fine, some people say if its to close to the turbo and sensor life will be short. If a wideband senor is in exhaust it should be on, or it can get clogged with carbon. But you can put it in just to tune and then pull it out when you are done to prolong sensor life.

Mine seems to not have any issues with heating right now. Some day on the dyno it'll be nice to compare my readings with the readings the dyno gets.

I didn't want to put it in the stock location because of the potential to shorten the sensors life. So I'm still running the stock one, and have the wideband hooked up solely to the display unit.

i have mine right after the bend on the down pipe, i was worried about heat but it has be working 100% since i installed it.

I've gone through two Bosch sensors in less than 1000 miles on my car. It's only about five inches from where the turbo meets the downpipe. They are known for being a wimpy sensor.

The Bosch sensor is an OEM part on veedub 1.8Ts, so its probably designed to last more than 500 miles.

I have 8k on my Bosch wideband sensor mounted in the factory 02 location, zero problems.
