o2 Rear Sensor - Exhaust Problem
 

95 GSX - Stock car for now basically.

I was removing the stock exhaust system and installing the Apex'i GT-Spec system. This was a pain in the ass to do as the exhaust was rusted to death. The stock cat was molting. The fluff was sticking out. But, Finally pulling it off today, one thing that happened during the job was the rear o2 sensor that connects at the mid-pip.

For my car, it was connected there, but as I was trying to move it, I noticed that it literrally broke off. I still gotta remove the bolt part off the stock mid-pipe as it is laying there, but the attachment from inside the car is hanging there.

I'm exhausted as hell from just trying to remove all the bolts and everything, but now i'm sitting here worn out thinking about the next steps, after I get the bolts to bolt up the system, i'm wondering if it is drivable.

THe question that I have is - Is it necessary to have the o2 rear sensor to be able to drive the car? Also, how easy of a fix will this be?

It will throw a CEL for the broken heater circuit right away, but it won't effect the way the car drives or anything. The rear O2 sensor is only used to monitor the effectiveness of the cat, it isn't an essential sensor and doesn't change the tune at all.

Just eliminate it. Radioshack will be your friend on this one.

Thanks Ecoli. Yea, I noticed that the check engine light came on. I thought it might be due to the o2 sensor. The spot on the midpipe for the o2 sensor hole is uncoverred.

Do you guys know what i can buy off the bat from a hardware store that can fit in its spot?

I believe spark plugs and o2 sensors share the same thread. I could be wrong though. Otherwise I am sure there is some sort of plug you could use. You just need the thread pitch and size.

I haven't fixed this yet tho but, B/c I haven't plugged the o2 sensor hole yet, is that why the exhaust system is louder than usual?

Ok. Plugged the hole, and the exhaust is softer. I'm such a rookie =(

But to future people who needs something to plug it,
I used an Oil Drain Plug M18 / 1.5. It fits nicely and has that rubber gasket in between it.
