Hey everyone. I am looking for someone who wants to help me out who has a ig with flip up headlights. I have been trying to make a set of headlights that dont flip up for the 1g eclipse but havnt been able to drive four hours work on them with my friend because of school. if anyone is interested in them or trying to make some and knows a little something about fiberglass, I would be glad to pay for the materials for the help.. Here is a link of what the final result would be.\

After you PM'ed me about this, I was thinking about it.The fiberglass will be the least of your problems, you'll have to completely replace the headlights with different ones and modify the plastic assemblies directly beneath the headlights.Anyway I think I could do it, not 'till it warms up some though.

I have a friend, Bob Viau, who's dad owns a Porsche shop. Bob has a Porsche 955? Anyhoo, he did a pop-up to flush mount conversion. He's good with that stuff. Let me know if you're interested.

Yeah, I agree with Eric. Fiberglassing is easy compared to making the lights sit flush, finding some plastic the rght size for the housing, and getting them to fit/mount right. Did you take Bill's class at HTC? Did you do teh fiberglass molds? It is not that difficult to use fiberglass. IMO, the project would not be worth the time ro money to complete. IMO it would look quite shitty on a 1g dsm. I don't like the pic in the link also though.

The only good thing I've seen done to a 1ga's headlight is that they made it shine through a clear plastic peice altogether and used round foglight-like lenses to shine through the lower peice and making the flip up part , part of the hood altogether. It still is pretty shitty lighting according to him. What you could do to make the lighting better is add HID thru though bottom lenses and replace of that fuzzy clear peice with a crisp clear peice molded the same shape. The hard part is trying to make a quality looking clear peice w/o making it look like ghetto homemade shit. If you know a person who can mold plastic into the same shape to make you an indentical lense, it would work quite nicely imo.

That would look fine if it had a plexiglass cover over it instead of that gaping hole. The best looking lights along that line are the 300ZX.

I was also thinking about this idea but I think it just wouldnt look great. The clear panel instead of the popups is also an idea. And you could put something like this under them with a mold around this:

The new WRX's have lights you can buy that are 3 lights in one. YOu could take out the lights and either make a new housing for them or just use the housing in this pic and then cut it down.

Also I would rather take out the popups all together and do something (like in this pic below) right at the front where the turn signals are. I think this would look the cleanest... I wonder if you can use the 92-94 style hoods if you took out the popups and cleaned out whats under them.
