Difference between 2.4Ls
What is the difference between the 4g64 and the g4cs(6Bolts only)? I get that one is mitsu and the other is hyundai. If I wanted to build on up what one would be better. OR are they both the same?

Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
From what I gather you need to tap the hole for the knock sensor on the G4Cs? Correct me if I am wrong though.

Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
I believe that OEM 4G64 parts have to be ordered through Mitsubishi and OEM G4CS parts have to be ordered through Hyundai. I have it saved on my home computer somewhere but there are supposedly differences in some of the parts. Maybe one of the shops knows: LSE, MAP, DB?

Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
I have never dealt with a 6-bolt 4G64, only the 7-bolt ones. All the 6-bolt 2.4l block I have used have been the G4CS. The G4CS usually has a spot for the knock sensor. The 6-bolt G4CS and 7-bolt 4G64 are quite a bit different. The 6-bolt G4CS motors have not exactly been a trouble free setup and the main cap setup leaves a little to be desired when compared to a 6-bolt 2.0l or any 7-bolt.

Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
I read the exact oposite. I read the the 2.4 main caps are "thicker" then the 2.0 ones. Also I am going to be using a "main girdle" on this setup.

Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
They might be, but they aren't girdled at all like a 2.0l 6-bolt or a 2.4l 7-bolt.

the tied caps on the left and right are 2.0 caps. 6bolt 2.4s come with "free" caps, that do not have that bridge. the girdle on both sides in that pic is made by kiggly racing. magnus offers something similar: 4G63 6 Bolt Main Girdle Did you ever wonder why the 6 bolts never had a one piece main girdle like the 7 bolts? Don’t worry, this piece eliminates the common fretting problem found on the main caps and main bearing wear associated with high revving engines, and more commonly with the 100mm crank engines. The 6 bolt main girdles cleverly help secure the center main to the adjacent mains on your motor. This piece is a must with all high performance engine builds. Note, this piece must be used in conjunction with main studs, and your block must be align honed. |
Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
I have that item sitting in my basement right now...

Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
Use some ARP mains and get a good align hone and you should be good in that area i would suspect.

Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
G4CS = 6 bolt
4G64 = 7 bolt G4CS = Hyundai version 4G64 = Mitsubishi version |

Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
yes I did... he asked what the difference was between the two. I was saying 6 bolt vs 7 bolt. that is the MAIN difference is and I said the rest incase someone wasn't sure and incase someone was ording parts...
I currently have a G4CS block sitting in my garage BTW |
Re: Difference between 2.4Ls
Actaully there is a 4g64 6bolt so that post is incorrect
