Iranians outraged at the movie "300"

:jackoff:

This shit is absolutley rediculous. You can't do or say anything anymore w/o offending somebody these days. I'm just gonna stick to my plan of offending everyone ;)

It's a historical event. I don't see what the big deal is. Maybe Hollywood should make a movie about the Muslims conquering Jerusalem to make them happy. Oh wait, they already did.....

Meh. Its really hard to even begin to take that stuff seriously. Have you seen some of the anti-US propaganda that comes out of that country? They are simply preying on our weak political-correctness oriented society. I'm willing to bet that a surprising number of Americans side with them on this one.
How many more times have Germany, England, Japan, Russia, etc been villainized in movies?

Re: Iranians outraged at the movie "300"

Very true. This just adds to the political correctness crap that I, personally, and tired of seeing on the news every day. There's always someone out there looking for something to bitch about, no matter what the case, how serious it's supposed to be, who made/said it, or what it (or was supposed to) depict. It's like the internet, it's serious fucking business

I'm just waiting for the day I get into trouble for excessive use of the word "Homosexual," "fag," and "gay."

Not to mention flipping the bird on numerous occasions daily.

HAhaha, I'm not really bitching, just adding to the discussion. If I was bitching, I would call everyone cocksuckers, and threaten to forcibly inseminate their mothers :sex2:

Re: Iranians outraged at the movie "300"

Personally I think it's a good article. Being a Muslim myself, just when I saw the previews before some of the movies I've seen recently, I was turned off from the movie just because of the way they depict Muslims as almost supernatural/evil or something of the sort. It basically looks like humans vs. some sort of sci-fi race, which it was not, it was human vs. human.

I am not overly sensitive but if they want to depict the amazing story of the "300", at least do it in a reasonable manner. You could easily show the dramatic nature of what happened there without making the Persians look like freakshows. Just show that they came on hard, but these "300" were still able to hold them off for a decent amount of time. In Braveheart they could have made the warriors from other countries some sort of sci-fi beast but they didn't, and that is one of the best movies ever made.

From the first time I saw a preview, I decided I had no interest in a movie that was going to depict Muslims in this manner. But now with all the hype and talk of the Iranians uproar, I have to see it in full just to know what the hell I'm talking about.

Fuck stupid people. Seriously, what goes through these peoples minds. Shit they make numerous movies about how the white man keeps everyone down, but do you see white america get all pissed because of a movie. FUCK NO, why? Because those who would stand up and say the movie offends us would be labeled a racist. That movie was great.
Its like chris said, its a movie not a documentary, No where in that movie did it say that this was based on actual events.

They didnt say that but its implied.. The movie would be better IMO if they would have stuck to more realistic terms of how things really were.

It is a movie based off of a COMIC BOOK. Liberties were obviously taken to make the movie darker and more surreal, and i for one heartily enjoyed said changes.

People who cant separate entertainment material from historical fact have their own problems.

I agree completley. The way they portrayed the Persians was used to make the movie more interesting, and make it seem like even more of a good guy vs. bad guy thing. I'm sure we could all think of other movies that have used this technique. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to offend anyone at all, in any way shape or form, but I would understand the frustration from people more if it were a documentary, and not just hollywood entertainment

Re: Iranians outraged at the movie "300"

Agreed with the last 2 posts. I'm very respectful of everyone and every race. But that was obviously not a documentary, nor did it even look close to one. It was for enterainment and anyone that doesn't understand that needs to get a life.

If someone wants to bitch, what about black hawk down and the unneeded racial slurs thrown in. Now that shit pisses me off. But this movie? Come on! Anyone walking out of the theater thinking that's how shit went down.... jesus man.

I want to see the movie because it has entertainment value and I like paying 7 or 8 dollars for ~2 hours of brain melting excitment.

I can see where you are coming from, but didnt this battle occur over a thousand years before Muslims came to be? I for one never associated Muslims with the Persians in this movie. Nor do I really associate middle-easterners with the "monsters" depicted.

You have a point. The story is pre-Christian, pre-Muslim. At that point in history, religions were polytheistic. It's not a matter of religions portraying religions; it's Greeks vs. Persians. I will say that the story is misconstrued somewhat. It is humans battling humans, but at that time someone who was over 5'8" tall was considered a "giant." There was a lot of imagination written about the battle, so why not portray that in the movie to make it that much more appealing? There are some things that are true and some that aren't. You can't tell me that orgies, adultry, and body modifications didn't occur at that time. Maybe not like they were depicted, to that degree, but they were practiced.

Re: Iranians outraged at the movie "300"

I will restate what others have already mentioned: This movie was based off a comic book, it was not intended to be nor was it portrayed as a documentary.
