Car not starting.
91 GSX..automatic ..I have the alternator tighten.. and the squeal is gone but now.. it wouldn't start.
heres what happened: It started that first time I cranked it up.. I step away for a mintue and came back to go to work.. it was dead.. it has not started since.. It would crank and turn over.. everything works.. just not catching..on.. History: It would bog a little when I was driving.when it was not fully warm up... it does this for a while before it did not start.. I thought it was just to cold .. On hot or warmer days it would die after you've being driving for and an hour or fully warmed up... when rpm drops below 650 RPM. it'll just drops then die.. what I did: I checked the spark plugs..Damn my sparkplug socket get stuck in the hole..had hard time getting it out.. wires are new. I'm leaning toward fuel pump.. Is there something I should check before I get a fuel pump..?? Thanks, tsua |
Re: Car not starting.
Will it even crank? From what I can gather from your broken engrish, I would check for corroded battery connections/terminals/cables

Re: Car not starting.
it almost starts but just cranking over.. not turning on..

Re: Car not starting.
Check your coolant temp sensor, could be the problem.

Re: Car not starting.
my temperature is at 0... it never goes up or down... there is a wire gone from under, where the thermostat sits.. I can't seem to see a loose wire anywhere.. I'm still looking for that wire..any help would be great.. Oh.. car runs fine even when that wire was not there.. it just have that stalling problem once awhile .. Now, it just don't start
Fuel sending unit.. where is that? a picture would be great.. e-mail me at tsuaherxiong@hotmail.com |
Re: Car not starting.
today was a good day.. I checked the car .. gets me all confused..
1. engine just cranks. 2. base timing is TDC.. is good.. 3. Check fuel pump. fuel comes on everytime you crank.. 4. No spark... looks like a bad coil pack.. so i got a good days inspecting.. I hear the sound.. "tzzzz" than the engine would crank.. How do i get that plugwire coil pack out from under the intake manifold? .. I can't see any bolts. any of you guys have a manual I could barrow..? Is there something else i should check before I buy or get a use coil pack.. any help would be great.. tsua |
Re: Car not starting.
Did you check your ECU?

Re: Car not starting.
how do i check the ECU?
|
Re: Car not starting.
It could be either the coilpack or a blown igniter. See if you can find someone that has a spare and swap it in to try it out.
It could also be the CAS. Either of these units failing could be causing this. ECU: search around on here or vfaq.com how to remove it, and then once you get it open, see if the capacitors are leaking badly. |
Re: Car not starting.
Is there a Check Engine Light on? If there isn't, you can rule out the CAS. When mine went bad I got a CEL for it.

Re: Car not starting.
Possible problems: ECU/ECU caps, transistor pack, coil pack, compression, fuel pressure/injectors firering. I will lean twards the transistor pack being bad. This could and has caused miss firering, and idle issues.

Re: Car not starting.
wow.. ok.. So.. there are three things I have to look at.. ECU/caps, transistor pack, and coil pack.. I think compression is good engine does not comsume oil.. fuel.. looks good.. when I tested it the other day..
yes.. it would idle good than when it is warm-up and it tends to just die..if you don;t keep the idle up a little.. anyone got some of these items i need to test my car.. any help would be great.. thanks.. tsua |
Re: Car not starting.
aahh...i have the same problem with my car, but mine is manual. what i did was i got the ecu replaced, that elminated the problem right away. and my car is pretty normal upset it does drop below 650 and die at times. you should disconnect your alarm as well, that gave me alot of starting problems.

Re: Car not starting.
I'm getting the ECU tested as we speak.. and the coil packs are out for testing too.. transistor pack.. is one heck hard thing to get out.. looks like I have to get the timing belt cover off before i can get to it.
