Crazy oil pressure
91 talon tsi AWD
Sometimes my gage reads next to ZERO oil pressure then all of a sudden pops back up to the safe operating range. It generally drops below the safety range while idle but once moving, the needle looks fine. I'd say it was a connection issue ( or something related to the snow ) but it doesn't ever actually drop to the bottom.. just really close. I go through alot of oil now as well. Everytime I boost it reaks of burnt oil. I think possibly the turbo seals are shot? I am not sure how to know that for sure though.. |
Re: Crazy oil pressure
Are you relying on your stock oil pressure gauge?

Re: Crazy oil pressure
What Mitsubishi oil gauge is right. Normal it sound like. Does your oil light ever come on?
|
Re: Crazy oil pressure
It did today for the first time ever. Sad thing was, it was over a quart low. I had no idea I was going through oil that fast.
|
Re: Crazy oil pressure
Check the turbo man. One way is to pull off the coupler and see if there is any sign of oil on the brim.
|
Re: Crazy oil pressure
Could be your valve seals are worn. Normal idle pressure is I think 8 psi. I'd get a oil pressure gauge and get a true reading, hope this helps.
|
Re: Crazy oil pressure
Well there is no doubt in my mind that the turbo is getting fucked up. I mean it creeps to like 22 PSI at high RPMS and WOT.
|
Re: Crazy oil pressure
The turbo doesnt cause you to creep. That would be fixed with a external waste gate or with a better o2 housing.

Re: Crazy oil pressure
Don't know if this helps, but when I got my DSM out of the garage one day after doing a trans swap I was getting ZERO oil pressure (stock gauge). I fiddled with everything, checked my logger, etc.. I then went down by the DriverSide wheel (front of it) and moved a black clip around on filter housing and fiddled with the wires that were leading away from it. I then went into my car and it was reading good Pressure! Sometimes when I hit a bump it go's to shit too.

The o2 housing I have is godlike. It just so happens that it's a 3inch SS o2elim down pipe on a 14b that was junk to begin with. Last time I checked, people don't generally externally gate 14b's :P There is a full free flowing 3inch exhaust system with a 3 inch o2 elim on the car. It's obviously going to creep on an iddy bitty turbo like I have. The question at hand is why does my oil pressure suck? The answer is yet to be known but the next step would be to get an accurate oil pressure gauge setup. Turbo seals that are on their way out the door ( close to not working, but still good enough to work.. if you get my drift) can cause you to get lower than normal oil pressure correct? |
Re: Crazy oil pressure
Are you ignoring me!? Did you try what I had posted?! Go jiggle the black clips on the filter housing and the following lines. Black square click. Watch your god damn fingers too theres a belt there.

Yes I checked before I even made the thread :P Thanks for reminding me though! |
Re: Crazy oil pressure
Every one of my dsms did this Josh. As long as your oil light is not coming on your fine.

Re: Crazy oil pressure
Buy a real oil pressure gauge, and just end this retarded thread. If you find a problem with your oil pressure, investigate further from there. Even though the stock oil pressure gauge is a flaming pile of shit to begin w/, and you shouldn't expect it to work right in the first place, it's not a bad thing that your concerned about your oil pressure. Hell, what if something actually turns out to be wrong? Who's laughing then....

Re: Crazy oil pressure
I agree. Mechanical gauge is the best way to get the accurate reading.
