I got a job!

I'm now the new account manager for Micalan Group Inc. We are based in Golden Valley, off 55. We are the handshake and smile for companies like verizon, att, mapquest, google, intuit group (make turbotax, smarttax, etc, and those machines you slide your credit card through). The group I work with is Quill, a staples company. Quill is the largest and oldest company for office supplies in North America. We supply paper, ink, pens, staples, cartriges, etc etc to offices, businesses. We also supply gloves and other medical supplies to chiropractors, doctors, dentists, orthos, etc. Basically, anything you'd use, we supply. Most businesses use a company or another to get their supplies, but Quill is able to beat most everyone's prices by atleast 10%. When buying in bulk, that adds up, and sometimes it's more. Anyway, I start off as an account manager, and it's 4 weeks of training. Then, I move up to account executive, then assistant manager 4 months later, then executive marketing manager, usually average 8-10 months later. Starting pay is between $550-$700 a week, but then it goes up, all the way to that executive manager position, paying $110,000 a year-7-10k a week! I know some may think that's not a whole lot, but for not having any backround in this field, nor really going to school for business, that's a lot to a guy like me. Anyway, The guy who hired me today, has been there for 5 years, and makes around 1.2 mil a year. I was suprised, because he's 27 yrs old, but I guess that doesn't matter! Hell, I beat out 116 other people at this location for the job, and they all where older( late 20's, 30's even 40's!). I'm nervous, and excited to start, but I guess any paycheck is better then none, and I've never seen the ability to move up in a company as fast. There's more to it, but I won't bore you all. Basically, I'm just happy i've FINALLY got a damn job, after not having one for about a month!

So do have to go around and solicit for business? If so, I'm sorry to say I know what type of job this is, and it takes a HIGHLY motivated person to do well. If this isn't the type of position you have to go door to door to get business then it sounds like it's worth a shot, give'r hell! :D

Re: I got a job!

Sounds like a salesman position.
Good luck.
If you pull it thru, you DEFINITELY will be making all the big bucks.

Again, Congrats and goodluck.

Hate to burst your bubbles but 110k a year doesn't add up to make 7-8k a week. You need to go back to math class.
Dsmstyle is correct, you will need to be very out going for this job. Good luck man. What does Cher think about you working closer to him? j/k

Re: I got a job!

I had 2 younger guys basically barge into my house the other week, trying to give me "free carpet shampooing" and whatever. I finally had to be rude to them and tell them to get out of my house. I knew if I let them do a little free cleaning, it would lead to some other sales pitch. I hate that shit. But I suppose it works on some people. I just had to tell them I want nothing from them, and they need to get out of my home at once.

Re: I got a job!

I wish you the best of luck. There are multiple companies out there right now doing the same thing, in terms of promising big money making opportunities by working with Fortune 500 companies. In the end, does it work? >95% of the people live on hopes and dreams. <5% of the people actually make the big bucks. Spending some time on Google not only makes this company appear to be a pyramid scheme, but also produces these:

Re: I got a job!

It's not a sales pitch. It's basically seeing what companies have us as their office supply distributor, and if they need a second option, we are there. It's buinesses, not homes. I personally am not a fan of sales pitching, or going door to door. But, today wasn't too bad, and it will change over the next few weeks, hopefully.

Hey, Christa worked for Micalan Group, doing IMS. I guess you got the easy job. But I went with her driving for a day. That job blows ass and it's only paid on comission, so I hope you like going to 60 doors a day. Good luck.

Yeah, not to rain on the parade, but I would be suspicious of any sales job with constant promotions or "levels" like that.

Re: I got a job!

I'll start by saying congradulations. I'm glad you found something that you're excited about. However, I haven't heard of a profitable company that allows people to rise up so quickly in their management line. The company must either have a very high executive turnover or they're just feeding you a line. Normally, when executives are making that kind of money, they don't leave. Therefore, I don't see what kind of spots they're filling on that kind of short term basis - 15 months to get to be a marketing executive. Normally, they'd hire a marketing executive elsewhere or fill it with someone with experience in that postition. There are people who do fill that position that are internal, but it takes much longer than that to get there. You are starting out on great pay, and I'd be excited as well. Just keep your head up and be aware that it might not be what you were told.

Don't be naive, run away ASAP!

Re: I got a job!

I'll just say that I thought this too was a scam. I HATE salespeople. I don't like the door-to-door aspect of things. But, I'm rather suprised at the way this company conducts itself. We represent MANY clients, quill alone is a 1billion dollar a year industry. And, it IS growing quite often! So, in terms of training, and turn-around time? Yes, there is quite the ability to move up. The lady I was with today has been with the company 5 weeks, and she's an account executive. They bring all of us in to eventually manage our own locations, because the industry is growing soo fast. That's how they are allowed to hire and interview soo many people!

Any shops on here need office supplies delivered to their doorstep, free shipping, and you only get what you need, let me know. I don't want another person making a pitch, or doing anything, if it's something that I could do for you. Just PM me. I know Chris needs stuff. Anyone else?

Re: I got a job!

Sorry to say, but this sound exactly like every other pyramid scheme "job". Are you being "hired" as an actual full-time employee or a 1099? Don't buy into their "you beat out XXX people" line, either its a made up number or the other people realized its a scam and decided to run away. Is this place asking you to pay for your training or pay anything out of pocket with promises of reimbursing you at a later date?

Re: I got a job!

You don't pay for much except the gas you use running to places that don't want anything. Christa wanted me to point out atmosphere sucks balls. Road trips are the worst. She went to Green Bay and had to pay for gas for someone else's car; because she didn't have a running car at the time. You take your own car on road trips though. She got so sick of Tom's shit she left GB two days later. She even got yelled at twice for yawning at 8 am. And have fun talking to Zach with his gf's bug that goes 8 seconds in the 1320.
