Front Cover Removal (2g)
Hi Guys-
We just got my engine pulled out and put on the engine stand tonight. I was gonna re-ring with the crank in but I think that's a half ass way to do it risking the chance of get getting contaminents in the bearings when honing it out. So I'm gonna just take the whole motor apart. My question: Is there any special tools needed to get the front cover off? Such as for the oil pump sprocket and the crank sprocket? Do you need a gear puller or something? Thanks. |
Re: Front Cover Removal (2g)
that helps..... ive always had pullers but never remember to use them.... they all came off though so i dont think anything special is needed... but yet my shit dont start so, good luck!!!!

Re: Front Cover Removal (2g)
A lot of timing gears I've taken off, just slid right off... But if you need to use a puller to get it off, you can just make one with a piece of 1/4" flat steel, drill a couple holes in it and bolt it to the pully with the sprocket nut on, then back out the sprocket nut and it should pull it right off.
Other than that, nothing special needed. The balance shafts will come out with the case cover, so no need to unbolt them either. |

Thanks guys. I'll be working on it a little each night this week.

Re: Front Cover Removal (2g)
Are you going to eliminate the balance shafts? Just wondering

Make sure to unbolt the oil pickup before you try and remove the cover.
