ECU Visual dignosis
 

A friend of mine had his mechanic tell him this ecu was completely dead. I don't have much experience with these things so I was hoping someone might be able to tell something from a close up view. I didn't see any major leaky caps, but plenty of yellow icky, especially on the underside.

It's a 95 AWD (non eprom :( )

It's still pretty hard to see anything. Does it smell like bad fish?

When caps leak, it's usually directly under the cap itself, not viewable from either side til the cap is removed. The yellow crap looks like the normal board protectant.

In my experience with bad ECU's of the OBDII variety, you can tell when you hook up a OBDII tester and it reads either ERR or nothing at all.

It doesn't seem to smell at all.

His mechanic said he's 'not getting anything' from the ecu. Apparently nothing was working in the car at all. I assume he hooked it to a reader. I'm a little fuzzy on the details. I don't know the guy very well, but have been trying to help him out.

If it sounds dead, you can consider this a proxy WTB ad, lol.
