Oil prices lowest in almost 2 years.

http://money.cnn.com/2007/01/18/mark...ex.htm?cnn=yes

It's been nice to fill up as of late in at least one car for under $2 a gallon. And around $2.11 for 92. I'm hoping the low oil prices keep around this current mark, or drop a tad more. Too low, and I bad economics. Too high and people start to hurt again. For those who got used to paying $2.50+ a gallon, this sure is a nice break.

Anytime premium is under $2.50 I get happy since both my cars take it :)

I am loving this seeing that I drive the Blazer. But, since I might have to start commuting to Eden Prarie, I might need to find a econo-box anyway.

16-18 mpg kills no matter how you look at it.

I still remember when I got my license, gas was like 88 cents a gallon. Was wierd seeing more gallons than cost.

Yeah, it's trickled down to retail as well. I've had a record month of sales since the gas price dropped. Everything is selling.

This also came up the other night on a boy's night out. One of the guys is an environmentalist and made the comment that gas prices should be brought back up to increase the use of more economical cars. Funny enough, the two cars he owns are a Land Rover and a Porsche Boxster, neither of which gets over 15 mpg. Hmmmmmmmmm. I almost got into it but decided to just let it go. I'll have to suggest he trade the Porsche in for a Prius, I can get those for a song now that gas prices dropped. Go figure.

Pick up a few Prius and hold onto them till the gas hits $3 a gallon. :D

I got BP Amoco premium 93oct a little bit ago for 2.01 per gallon. First time in a long long time I have filled up for under $40 in the GTP. I honestly could really care less though. There is really no point in bitching about it unless you plan on not driving. Most people need to drive and will pay whatever gas prices are.

I have never not gone anywhere because of gas prices. When its low I fill up. Nor have I curved any of my spending because of high gas prices. Now if it high $5 per gallon I might change my mind. Sure its nice when its low but I am not going to lose sleep over it when its high.

I'm the same.

Yes its nice the prices are down. But we should not bitch when they are up. Lucky now both cars take 87 so thats been a plus. When I get the Talon back it be a different story.

That'd be nice. I filled up with 93 today at $2.17/gallon.

$1.90 x (1.9 x .2) = $1.52

Considering ~20% decrease in fuel mileage and you're hardly saving any money.

My Galant sees a ZERO milage decrease, while running a 50/50 blend of E85 and regular 87.

That isn't possible, ethanol contains less energy per gallon than gasoline does; not to mention the long-term damage you are doing to your car since its only designed for a maximum of 10% ethanol.

Re: Oil prices lowest in almost 2 years.

OK. Next time I will take pics of the trip. I did this twice so far. THe first time. I ran 87 in the tank for 3 full tanks, to make sure I had a full tank of 87, not diluted with anything. I forget the exact numbers now, but I went 320 miles, which was right when the gas light turned on, on that tank, and had figured 24.xx mpg on that tank. Then went 50/50 with E85, gas light turned on at 319, and I also got 24.xx mpg. I don't remember the decimal points, but they were close, not a .9 difference or anything. 2nd time, very similar results. I don't know what else to tell ya man. I'm on the third test right now. Yaay my life is so full of fun!

Many many people have experienced the same as Brandon just described, both FFV and not. I cant explain it and neither can they but it happens. I know what you are saying though about the science behind it. It shouldnt happen.

As far as long term damage, there are plenty of non-E85 vehicles popping up after an engine tear down and there is nothing wrong with the internals. I have seen 2 instances on line already from a performance shop in SD.

Hmmm, well, whatever works for you. I'll think about this more after I finish recreating a PN video tonight.

Re: Oil prices lowest in almost 2 years.

Haha, nice! I think I will start taking pictures of my tach though. I mean obviously there are a ton of variables, like hwy driving, warming up the car in the morning sometimes, driving habits. This last tank I got 300 on regular, and I'm not on more of a 40/60 e85/87 mix (didn't quite get it right at the pump, oh well), and so far I have 110 miles on the car, and it's looking like it's on path to be right around the same again.

And yes, I've read about the "damage" it causes, and people tearing down their motors aren't seeing any. Seems that was blown quite a bit out of proportion. But, hey it's my car, and I will do what I want. If my fuel lines one day all break into little pieces, well then you're right, and I'll be f-ed. But from what I've been researching, it seems that whole damage thing was blown a bit out of proportion.

And for anyone else who cares, this is a non-FFV 2001 Galant with the 4G64. And my Talon will be running 100% E85 from now on.

Re: Oil prices lowest in almost 2 years.

Sorry, the 27% more fuel you have to add doesn't translate to 27% worse mileage. The actual tested numbers are 5-10% worse mileage. The properties of E85 are much different than gasoline, it's actually less flammable like race gas. I'll see if I can dig up the government PDF's on it, it was a good read.

Re: Oil prices lowest in almost 2 years.

Oh, and a blend like E85 isn't that corrosive, 100% would be.

Re: Oil prices lowest in almost 2 years.

I don't think I believe this, but analysts are saying that in 2 years a barrel of oil will go for around $30. Right now it's around $50. I was baffled when I heard this from 3 of the 4 people on the board. The fourth said it will drop, but not that low.
