tranny help
hello,
here is my delemma any help would be awesome I tore the tranny down and had to wait 3 weeks for a 3/4 rail so now I forgot how the reverse gear goes back together. It seems wierd to me that the piece that conects to the 5/r rail and engages the secondary gear (I'm not sure what it is called but its the gear thats by itself on its own shaft between the two primary shafts.) but that piece that moves that gear is not pinned onto the rail, there is no hole in the rail for a pin and I am stumped. is the rail not supposed to be pinned? can you give me an idea on this or point me twards a website with a diagram. |
Re: tranny help
I can't remember for sure, but I think a chilton, mitsu, etc. repair manuals have a breakdown of the trans?

As far as trannys go, there are a lot of slightly different models out there. 1g or 2g, they still have differences among themselves. Maybe not the shift rails but certain parts require different part numbers. That is why it is hard to find a straight forward answer to a list of hard parts to a specific trans. Get the Mitsu manual for your specific car. It will definitely have a breakdown. Good luck on your search. |
Re: tranny help
figured it out there was a mini pin that went inside of the contector that slid on the two rails, kinda retarded but whatever.

Re: tranny help
Where would one get a Mitsu manual? A dealer? Anywhere else? I would like a fresh tranny for the fresh rebuild but I dont want a $1000+ Shep price tag to go with it.

Re: tranny help
I believe TRE has a budget rebuild that is under 1000$. Usually during the change of seasons they have a sale going on. You can do a budget exchange or a rebuild for around 1000. Not too sure on sheps prices. Check them both out and compare. Or, if you have an existing loan, take out a loan on top of that one for a little more, I did this, payments only went up 20$. Granted I will be paying for a little longer. TRE also sells the OEM mitsu parts for trans. I bought a TRE stage 2, butter.

Re: tranny help
I have that Mitsu service manual Tim bought, PM me and I'll sell it to you.
Personally, I'd pay the price for a good tranny rebuild. The difference in feel between a home garage, generic tranny shop, and DSM tranny specialist is huge. |

Re: tranny help
Chris - PM sent.
Thanks for the help guys, and sorry to jack the thread. I'm completely not sure what I want to do tranny wise for this car. I have two trannyies and transfer cases (a 90 and a 91), both in good shape. I am doing the engine rebuild and I dont want the tranny to give right away once I start making power. My buddy has an extra blown tranny I could tear into just to satisfy my curiousity, but if I have a rebuild done it will probably be done by Shep. Thanks agian. |
